Tuomo H<p>Past the halfpoint in Silberman's NeuroTribes. It's really interesting read, although painful in places due to what has been done to us. I just read a sentence mentioning that in Asperger's files, there were many engineer fathers. My father was a graduate engineer...</p><p><a href="https://mementomori.social/tags/ActuallyAutistic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ActuallyAutistic</span></a> <a href="https://mementomori.social/tags/NeuroTribes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NeuroTribes</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/actuallyautistic" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>actuallyautistic</span></a></span></p>
M.S. Bellows, Jr.<p>You knew Trump wants to eliminate the Department of Education. You've learned he's naming WWE wrestling executive Linda McMahon to head that agency.</p><p>But did you know that Project 2025's blueprint for dismantling the agency calls for disabled children's special education services to be overseen by... RFK Jr ? Gremlin Child<p>Finding out yesterday that <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://newsie.social/@stevesilberman" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>stevesilberman</span></a></span> had passed away suddenly had more of an impact on me than I expected. I didn't know him but I kinda did I guess, because I read <a href="https://mas.to/tags/Neurotribes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Neurotribes</span></a> in the early days of figuring things out about myself, as a lot of <a href="https://mas.to/tags/ActuallyAutistic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ActuallyAutistic</span></a> people seem to do, &amp; it's an excellent resource &amp; he wrote compassionately &amp; without pre-judging. So I guess I knew that he was a person who saw more of people &amp; the community than what's on the surface &amp; that's a special ability.</p>
MOULE (in Rouge!) #RedInstead<p>I just found out the heartbreaking and sudden news that <a href="https://mastodon.moule.world/tags/SteveSilberman" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SteveSilberman</span></a> passed away yesterday.</p><p>His book <a href="https://mastodon.moule.world/tags/NeuroTribes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NeuroTribes</span></a> is very important to myself and so many other <a href="https://mastodon.moule.world/tags/Autistic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Autistic</span></a> people in helping us know who we are, fight back against decades of "deficit" propaganda, and introducing so many others to the <a href="https://mastodon.moule.world/tags/NeuroDiversity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NeuroDiversity</span></a> movement.</p><p><a href="https://www.stevesilberman.com/books/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">stevesilberman.com/books/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
ceartas<p>So saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Silberman, a fierce advocate for <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/neurodivergent" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>neurodivergent</span></a> people, LGBTQ folk, and humanity in general. His book, <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/NeuroTribes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NeuroTribes</span></a> was revolutionary in helping change the mental health community’s understanding of autism and other mental health challenges, redefining them as “a different way of thinking” as opposed to an “illness”.</p><p>He was with us here on mastodon just a few hours ago, and i will miss him SO much 😢</p>
Steve Silberman<p>French President Emmanuel Macron is serious about increasing opportunities in the workforce for <a href="https://newsie.social/tags/neurodivergent" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>neurodivergent</span></a> folks. Today I was honored to share some insights gained by talking to autistic people with Vincent Grimaldi de Puget, chair of the national Commission for the Recruitment of Atypical Talents, who got in touch after reading <a href="https://newsie.social/tags/NeuroTribes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NeuroTribes</span></a>. It was a great conversation.</p>
Steve Silberman<p>@powells.bsky.social in Portland is one of my favorite booksellers on Earth, and I'm so honored that Powell's on Hawthorne is featuring my book <a href="https://newsie.social/tags/NeuroTribes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NeuroTribes</span></a>, along with superb books by Devon Price, Hannah Gadsby, and others, to celebrate <a href="https://newsie.social/tags/neurodiversity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>neurodiversity</span></a> this month.</p>
Steve Silberman<p>A very, very lovely essay by Kristy Barlow about waking up to one's own <a href="https://newsie.social/tags/autistic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>autistic</span></a> identity - near the heart of what my book <a href="https://newsie.social/tags/NeuroTribes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NeuroTribes</span></a> is about. Thank you, @mattward.bsky.social. <a href="https://open.substack.com/pub/kristybarlow/p/lighthouse-in-the-fog?r=1e885&amp;utm_campaign=post&amp;utm_medium=web" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">open.substack.com/pub/kristyba</span><span class="invisible">rlow/p/lighthouse-in-the-fog?r=1e885&amp;utm_campaign=post&amp;utm_medium=web</span></a></p>
