George Musser<p>There’s been a huge commotion among theoretical <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/physicists" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>physicists</span></a> about a Nature paper last week, widely reported as saying that a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/QuantumComputer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>QuantumComputer</span></a> created a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/wormhole" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wormhole</span></a>. (It didn’t, at least not in any straightforward sense.) I’m struck that most of the discussion has taken place on Twitter. Mastodon has been left in the dust. Is a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/NetworkEffect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NetworkEffect</span></a> beginning to reassert itself, and will it force us to rejoin Twitter to be part of the discussion? In short, is Elon winning the battle?</p>

I don't think anything in the <a href="https://notroot.social/tags/fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fediverse</span></a> has ever reached this level of <a href="https://notroot.social/tags/networkeffect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>networkeffect</span></a>. Mod forum where? For reddit on reddit, yes, but it's another walled garden.</p><p>The Twitter internet has never really had to moderate itself. Until now.</p>
