"What Have They Done to My Song Ma" is a song written and performed by #MelanieSafka. It was released in 1970 as the B-side of Melanie's "#RubyTuesday" single and included on the album #CandlesInTheRain. The single reached the number 39 in the United Kingdom and peaked within the top 20 in Norway and the #Wallonia region of Belgium. Other artists have recorded it as "Look What They've Done to My Song Ma", after the song's first line.

RIP Melanie Safka

If she didn't do anything else in her life, this would have been enough.

But she did go on to write other songs, Brand New Key, Look What They've Done to My Song, etc.

I've also edited this to include other things she had done in her life - she was a spokeperson for UNICEF and founded Neighborhood Records - the first independent female-owned record company.

A life well-lived.

"And hey, baby, the sky's on fire, I'm dying, ain't I?
I'm gone to Carolina in my mind"

"I came across this clip recently but sadly it had no audio so I tried reading Melanie's lips but to no avail, I couldn't figure out what it was.
So I rang my friend reynardinerob and asked him to have a look and lo and behold he cracked it and so I was able to dub it with some sounds!" - Sky Vibes
