This one woman's self-inflicted suffering isn't going to move the needle.</p><p>Hopefully as food becomes scarce people wake up more, but I've got two concerns there - first, if you only care when you are personally suffering, your concern is going to stop as soon as you stop suffering. Second, I'm not sure how comfortable I am having a full refrigerator if the people growing and harvesting the food can't get insurance and have no rights, and that situation has existed long before our god-king ascended to the throne.</p><p>We need a social safety net for everyone. This includes folks from other nations, regardless of citizenship. And somehow we have to bring about a shift to where we have a social safety net born of empathy. THAT is the work we have ahead of us.
