If you're considering #Plex as a #MediaServer I would advise you to avoid it like the plague, particularly if you're considering spending money on a subscription.

The recent "upgrade" was anything but an #upgrade, breaking numerous functions, seeing regression bugs, changes in functionality and compatibility for devices that were not previously announced, and seemingly no plan to resolve these issues once they presented themselves. With a huge influx of support issues on the forum and a significant amount of people reporting #CompleteFailure their response was not ownership or even acknowledgement and a pause of the rollout and/or roll-back to a working version was not even entertained. The only solution for many was to roll back to a previous version (if you could find the binaries) but then back end changes meant that subsequently #failed also leaving many with non-functional servers.

Support pages on their internet page are being edited or removed post-rollout to remove information about compatible hardware that no longer works after the update.

I would rank this rollout as one of the worst I have ever experienced and has cemented the fact that they do not care about #Support or good #Software distribution practices but instead will take your money and leave you with a completely unusable product and barely any support.

Tired of #Plex mangling my audio files metadata so I’m trying #Roon. Problem is I like to stream from my collection to wherever I am out of the house. Set up and port forwarding successful but eventually #RoomARC will tell me the signal is not strong enough and stops streaming. #Plexamp will be working just fine. So I gave up trying to make Raspberry Pi 5 work adequately as a desktop, and started using it as a server. I installed #Jellyfin, streaming to our network our 27k+ songs, and then casting it to our hi-fi system via the phone app. All songs were legally acquired between 2008 & 2013 (plus our ripped CDs from the past). Back then, #indie musicians would release freeware mp3s of their singles, and I bought a lot from #iTunes too.

I've obviously not been paying attention to the hard drive world. 14 TB for $329 Canadian dollars at the Costco! What! Madness! And I see that version from WD has even bigger sizes.

Not convinced I would want the usb version though, perhaps internal use in a home media/files server so it doesn't take a month to copy.

Next month, Plex will block access and activity from Plex Media Servers from major hosting service, believed to be Hetzner.

Any Plex setup using their IP addresses, whether infringing or not, will be blocked access to their server setup.

In the Plex forums, many users report that they use #Hetzner’s servers for non-infringing uses, including storing their legitimate personal media collections.
