There is chance of thunderstorms tonight, mainly across northwest Illinois. Some of these thunderstorms may be severe. Showers will continue overnight into Wednesday for much of the area. Temperatures will be cooler on Wednesday. There will also be the potential for smoke from Canadian wildfires, but there is uncertainty for how much smoke may reach the surface.

A line of showers and severe storms will shift northeastward into northwestern IL between 7 and 10 PM this evening. These storms will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph near and west of I-39 through 10 PM this evening. The severe threat is expected to wane later in the evening as the storms weaken as they move east across the rest of the area.

Scattered showers and a few storms will move across the region early this afternoon, with the highest coverage in the dark blue shaded area. Severe weather is not expected early this afternoon, though a few storms may produce small, non-damaging hail and gusty winds. Additional storms (some of which may be severe) are expected after 4 PM.

It'll be windy and warm today with highs in the 80s. A brief shower is possible this afternoon. Showers and a few evening t-storms will overspread northern IL tonight, mainly late for Chicago and NW IN. Showers ending from north to south Wednesday, much colder, especially north of I-80!

Smoke from Canadian wildfires will continue to filter over the area through tonight, producing hazy skies like the past couple days. A cold front will bring showers and some storms across the area Tuesday night, with cooler conditions and periods of rain expected on Wednesday.

Smoke will largely obscure the sun today and Monday. Highs will be in the 70s today, but only in the lower 60s lakeside. Mon & Tue will feature 80 degree warmth right up to the lakefront. Some showers & t-storms are expected Tue night into early Wed. Lower rain chances will linger into Thursday, mainly south of I-80 & I-55.

Dry weather is expected into Tuesday. While skies should remain mostly sunny this weekend, wildfire smoke will continue to produce hazy skies (remaining primarily higher in the atmosphere). Warmer conditions early next week will precede periods of showers and thunderstorms midweek.

Some isolated to scattered thunderstorms may impact parts of the Chicago metro area and NW IN this evening. A strong t-storm or two can't be ruled out with locally strong wind gusts the primary threat. The best timing for these storms will be between 7pm and 12am this evening, but an isolated storm could develop as early as 5 PM.

Scattered storms are expected late this afternoon into this evening. Otherwise dry weather is expected this weekend. Smoke from Canadian wildfires could filter the sunshine through the weekend. A big warm is coming next week with highs well into the 80s, even up to the lakefront Monday and Tuesday!

Most of today will be dry, breezy, and warm. However, late in the afternoon into early this evening there could be some scattered thunderstorms, especially in the Chicago metro area and NW IN. A strong t-storm or two can't be ruled out with locally strong winds the primary threat in the strongest storms.
