Eliot Lash<p>Fedi, I know you are begging to answer this. What's a good <a href="https://social.coop/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> distro for a retired non-techie who's only ever used windows?</p><p>I was just talking to my neighbor and he said he tried to upgrade from <a href="https://social.coop/tags/windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windows</span></a> 10 to windows 11 but got some message that his computer might not be compatible and might "lose services." If he can't upgrade to 11, I pitched him Linux as an alternative to buying a new computer because apparently support ends in October.</p><p><a href="https://social.coop/tags/AskFedi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AskFedi</span></a> <a href="https://social.coop/tags/AskMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AskMastodon</span></a> <a href="https://social.coop/tags/LinuxQuestions" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LinuxQuestions</span></a></p>

Dane<p>So, I run Pop!_OS <a href="https://sharkey.world/tags/Linux" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Linux</a><span> with the Cinnamon desktop environment (it came with the default Gnome). I'm tempted to give KDE Plasma a try. The question is: Is having three desktop environments going to cause some funk with the OS?<br><br></span><a href="https://sharkey.world/tags/LinuxQuestions" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#LinuxQuestions</a> <a href="https://sharkey.world/tags/LinuxNoob" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#LinuxNoob</a> <a href="https://sharkey.world/tags/PopOS" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#PopOS</a> <a href="https://sharkey.world/tags/poposlinux" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#poposlinux</a></p>
Matt :opensuse: :wayland:<p>So with my homelab computer, I want to have it so that it stays on during the day, and then at night it will hibernate. Do any of the desktop environments allow you to set this up? Or is there a tool out there that will let me schedule power management in this way? <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/linuxquestions" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linuxquestions</span></a></p>
