concretelibraries<p>Þjóðarbókhlaðan, Reykjavík. </p><p>The National and University Library of Iceland was designed by Manfreð Vilhjálmsson and Þorvaldur S. Þorvaldsson. </p><p>Work on the new library started in 1978. But a series of events, starting with the oil crisis of 1973, caused massive delays. Following the Revolution, it served as Gendarmerie then teacher's college before becoming the municipal library in 1951. concretelibraries<p>Biblioteca Central UNAM, Mexico City. </p><p>The Central Library of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) was built by Juan O'Gorman in 1956. </p><p>To create the impressive mosaic that covers all faces of the book stack tower, O'Gorman collected 150 varieties of stone in 12 colours from all around Mexico.
