Backpacking trip in 2008 (October/November)
From Peru we travelled to Bolivia. First we visited Cobacabana by the lake Titicaca and from there we visited Isla del Sol. From Cobacabana we travelled to La Paz by interesting bus ride which included the transport of our bus over the river by "ferry".

In La Paz we visited the Coca Museum and toured around the city. Our final destination in Bolivia was the town of Sucre. For some reason we don't have many pictures from Sucre but it was a nice city.

My clearest memories from Bolivia are the bus rides which would be best described as long and uncomfortable intestinal massages.

Reissu vuonna 2008 (loka-/marraskuu)
Perusta matkustimme Boliviaan. Aluksi vietimme aikaa Cobacabanassa Titicaca-järven rannalla, josta vierailimme myös Isla del Solin Saarella. Cobacabanasta matkustimme La Paziin.

HOW COOL IS THIS? 🤩

Women in #Bolivia are #KNITTING tiny #occluders ('top hats' to block a hole in the #heart) of ELASTIC METAL, which are then folded up in a catheter, inserted into the body, travel ON THEIR OWN to the heart, then 'pop open' to their proper shape, b/c they 'remember' what shape they are supposed to be.

I've been surprised in Mexico how advanced the cycling infrastructure is. This separated bike lane in La Paz is safe, well used, and well maintained. I have no idea how representative this is, however having cycled in several places in the Baja I am thrilled to say it's a great place to bike. And yes, I know I'm on the wrong side of the lane. Well you try using your phone as a camera and cycling at the same time!!!!

It's the 21st century and we're back to doing what our ancient ancestors did in the face of #drought & #ClimateChange. #WaterCrisis #ElNiño

"Under a scorching sun, more than three hundred Bolivians on Friday marched to a dusty plain near the #IncachacaDam that overlooks the city of #LaPaz, gathering to pray for rain and an end to a severe drought that has threatened their water supply."

Wall Street is thirsty for its next big investment opportunity: The West's vanishing water

Cibola is one place few Americans have ever heard of, which made it all the more surprising when an investment firm bought nearly 500 acres there.

By Lucy Kafanov, CNN, Mar 22, 2023

"'These companies aren't buying up plots of land because they want to farm here and be a part of the community, they're buying up land here for the water rights,' said Holly Irwin, a #Cibola resident and #LaPaz County district supervisor.

"'#Greenstone is going to make millions at the expense of what it's going to do to our communities in the future and the precedence it's going to set,' said Irwin. 'We are in the midst of an extreme drought, our communities need this water. At some point, the state has a responsibility to protect the people that are here and to protect our water and not cater to those that are buying property for the water rights to make millions off of it to benefit metropolitan areas.'"
