Which tool are you using for layout and rendering? Is it <a href="https://mastodontech.de/tags/kicad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kicad</span></a>?</p>

JimmyChezPants<p>Hey I'm gonna make a late New Years resolution</p><p>This year, I'm gonna figure out either <a href="https://growers.social/tags/kicad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kicad</span></a> and/or whatever else I need to sort out, so I can at the very least order PCBs from open hardware designs. Maybe design some simple stuff myself, I have a few devices I need to update around here that would be just fine if I could do them cheaper.</p><p>There are LOT of musical gadgets out there that from what I can tell I can get from a PCB place for ridiculously low prices, compared to a similar gadget in the shops, but I haven't done the several days/weeks/months of aggravation learning new software and concepts. It is painful.</p>
cliffle<p>So far I'm pleasantly surprised with the Kicad 9 updates. My system quietly updated in the background so I'm finding them by accident.</p><p>I'll collect my favorites into a thread here as I discover them. 1/</p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/kicad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kicad</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>electronics</span></a></p>

Chris Petrilli<p>Not sure how i fixed it, and that's really annoying. But set them up so they are the way I like. Now if I could remember who I stole the idea from. <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/kicad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kicad</span></a></p>
Chris Petrilli<p>OK, for some reason it seems impossible to move the value field and reformat it and have that actually work. It invariable gets put back in some random auto location, even when "Allow autoplacement" isn't checked. <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/kicad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kicad</span></a></p>
Chris Petrilli<p>I'm starting to think that I need to make my own footprints and symbols in <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/kicad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kicad</span></a> for everything I use. Too many annoyances that are very personal preferences. Maybe just copy and paste the library ones and align them with my personal preferences?</p>
Andy Fletcher<p>Today I found out about the "replicate layout" plugin for Kicad.</p><p>I was looking at repeating a block 64 times and thought there must be a better way.</p><p>I'll have to spend some time seeing what other goodies are in the plugins section. I really wish I'd seen this in the past.</p><p>There is a great video showing how it works.</p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBfI2wwno5o" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=DBfI2wwno5</span><span class="invisible">o</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/kicad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kicad</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/pcb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pcb</span></a></p>

doragasu<p>About 10 years or more ago, I heard Javier Serrano (creator of CERN Open-Source Hardware License) they wanted <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/KiCAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KiCAD</span></a> to be for hardware developers, what GCC was for software developers. And I think they have achieved it!</p>

EndlessMason<p>Having just received my first PCB in the post I firmly believe that the UI in <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/KiCAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KiCAD</span></a> should, at all times, include a coke can and banana for scale.</p><p>You know so i don't sit in front of a 27 inch display thinking my PCB is going to A4 when it's a 2.5 by 4 key caps in size.</p>
