Jody Hughes<p>Cat picture finished! </p><p>A thought about why this was hard for me, which may or may not be interesting / relevant / true.</p><p>There are a wide variety of unusual piece shapes (zoom the picture to see).</p><p>My mental toolbox for sorting and remembering piece shapes only seems to work with the traditional shapes (ie broadly rectangular with four linking points, innies or outies). </p><p>This is, I suspect, because I remember the shapes by analogy with a human torso: skinny person with right shoulder raised, squat person with legs splayed, this sort of thing.</p><p>And *none* of this works with non-trad pieces. So, when doing the difficult last third (the brown background) where piece shape was the best approach, I couldn’t retain the shape needed, and kept missing the piece I was looking for.</p><p>It did get gradually better over time, so the next one won’t be as hard, I think. </p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/JigsawPuzzle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JigsawPuzzle</span></a></p>

Jody Hughes<p>This puzzle was a bit of a slog. A couple of years ago, I would have given up on it, but I am more patient these days.</p><p>It’s made by Flame Tree, which is not one of your high quality puzzle companies: there is not enough variation in piece shape (every internal piece has the same basic shape of two innies opposite one another and two outies opposite one another) and it’s less robust than I’d like. Normally I would steer clear of Flame Tree, but the painting is a good one, and it was helpful that the blue continuously varies across the painting.</p><p>Willing to trade it for a different one if you’re interested, though I’ve no doubt put you off.</p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/jigsawpuzzle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>jigsawpuzzle</span></a></p>

But oh boy, this is not an easy one. There’s so much stuff going on in that picture and so many different textures. Luckily it’s only 500 pieces. Michelle / The Giddy Stitcher<p>What started as a joke has somehow turned into me competing in the pairs division of the UK Jigsaw Puzzle National Championship tomorrow!</p><p>Surprisingly unbothered by nerves, although I do hope we can avoid coming dead last. HarriettMB<p>My first ever Wentworth wooden jigsaw - completed. It was a Christmas present, and even though 40 pieces seems few, it was more difficult than I thought it would be. I had a look at their website and am tempted, especially as they have a sale on….. but I really, really need to be good for a couple of months… Maybe I’ll point OH in that direction for upcoming treats instead. Erika Ensign<p>Finished this 2000-piece old-world map puzzle (finally!) so it's time to start a new one. </p><p>No idea what the new one is yet. I have <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@Legopolis" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>Legopolis</span></a></span> unbox them for me and give me the bag-o-pieces so I can go in completely cold. CurtAdams<p>Wheatfield with Cypress by Van Gogh.<br>1000 pieces, Flame Tree Publishing.</p><p>I found this puzzle just absurdly hard. Took me 16 hours, the longest time for any puzzle I've done since I started a few months ago. The pieces are all "standard puzzle shape", two outs and two ins, although there was some patterning I figured out after a while. I expect more skilled puzzlers could have used the brushstrokes but I really couldn't. <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/jigsawpuzzle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>jigsawpuzzle</span></a></p>
HarriettMB<p>This was a huge challenge and has taken weeks to do - I’m feeling pleased that I managed it. <br>This is the famous <a href="https://beige.party/tags/DarkHedges" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DarkHedges</span></a> in Northern Ireland, which featured in <a href="https://beige.party/tags/GameOfThrones" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GameOfThrones</span></a>. This photograph was taken by my friend Yvonne, who is <a href="https://beige.party/tags/TandemPhotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TandemPhotography</span></a>. You can find all her prints and calendars and jigsaws on a site of the same name. <br>It’s almost a monochrome image, as the green is far more subtle than it looks in this picture. On the upside the pieces are strong and very well cut, and will only fit together correctly - no duplicates. So if you would like a challenge, I’ll be more than happy to send it your way.
