Johann Sebastian Staedtler 🇨🇦<p>This is interesting, since the first Xenoblade Chronicles established how Klaus futzed around with virtually infinite cosmic power, creating one or more parallel universes, one of which he ruled over like a god. It wasn't really stated what became of Earth after that point.</p><p>If this is a direct sequel to that, then we can assume Earth did just fine without Klaus, to the point that humanity could build space vessels for escaping the planet.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/JSSXCX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JSSXCX</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/XenobladeChroniclesX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>XenobladeChroniclesX</span></a></p>
Johann Sebastian Staedtler 🇨🇦<p>Just going to mention that this round purple vessel gives me major Origin vibes.</p><p>And the Xenoblade series has traded in one gargantuan robot for thousands of still rather large robots.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/JSSXCX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JSSXCX</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/XenobladeChroniclesX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>XenobladeChroniclesX</span></a></p>
Johann Sebastian Staedtler 🇨🇦<p>Of note here is that the plaque is no longer attached to a probe, and it's quite beaten up. Perhaps the probe struck something, releasing the damaged plaque further into deep space... or perhaps it was disposed of?</p><p>Regardless, its purpose is served as it is dwarfed by an enormous alien spaceship. Intelligent extraterrestrials have found the plaque, and the player has been made plainly aware those extraterrestrials are heading toward Earth.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/JSSXCX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JSSXCX</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/XenobladeChroniclesX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>XenobladeChroniclesX</span></a></p>
Johann Sebastian Staedtler 🇨🇦<p>The plaque was designed in the early 1970s, in part by Carl Sagan and others for NASA, knowing the probes would exit the solar system and could hypothetically be encountered by intelligent extraterrestrials. It depicts the specific location of Earth within our galaxy based on the known location and frequency of 14 pulsars.</p><p>It also depicted a man's penis, and Nintendo are revisionist cowards.</p><p>Images are from <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pioneer_plaque" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pioneer_</span><span class="invisible">plaque</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/JSSXCX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JSSXCX</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/XenobladeChroniclesX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>XenobladeChroniclesX</span></a></p>
Johann Sebastian Staedtler 🇨🇦<p>Right from the opening scene, we get some deeply meaningful and probably metaphorical imagery: this is one of the "golden plaques" that accompanied the Pioneer probes 10 and 11. Pioneer 10 was the first human-made object to be sent outside our Solar System, the last signal from which was received in 2003. The faster Voyager probes beat Pioneer 11 out of the solar system, making it the fourth to escape, and it was last heard from in 1995.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/JSSXCX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JSSXCX</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/XenobladeChroniclesX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>XenobladeChroniclesX</span></a></p>
Johann Sebastian Staedtler 🇨🇦<p>XCX has always had a "black sheep" kind of reputation among the Xenoblade games (lol it doesn't even get a number), and it long seemed destined to languish in Wii U purgatory, but now here we are!</p><p>Sadly I won't recognize any notable changes from the game's original release, including any retcons made to shove its story in among the numbered ones. I'm also only superficially familiar with the earlier Xenogears/saga games, if they're relevant here at all.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/JSSXCX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JSSXCX</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/XenobladeChroniclesX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>XenobladeChroniclesX</span></a></p>
Johann Sebastian Staedtler 🇨🇦<p>For background, I was introduced to the series with XC2 on the Switch, and—after my initial inability to understand what the hell was happening during combat—I loved it to death. Happily, the first game was then re-released as XCDE for the Switch, and I finished it next. I absolutely devoured XC3 on release, and so far it's my favourite of the series.</p><p>I had a tried a couple of times to emulate XCX, but never with enough motivation to progress past Chapter 1.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/JSSXCX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JSSXCX</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/XenobladeChroniclesX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>XenobladeChroniclesX</span></a></p>
Johann Sebastian Staedtler 🇨🇦<p>It's finally time for my playthrough (and abject overanalysis) of Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch.</p><p>This will be a long rambling thread, and I'll use the <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/JSSXCX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JSSXCX</span></a> tag so that it's easy to mute! And I'll CW each toot for spoilers.</p><p>I have done this before for <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/XenobladeChronicles3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>XenobladeChronicles3</span></a>, collecting over 20,000 screenshots and discussing finer points of (the first half) of the game (so far), which can be read at <a href="https://bigraccoon.ca/articles/xc3" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">bigraccoon.ca/articles/xc3</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/Xenoblade" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Xenoblade</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/XenobladeChroniclesX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>XenobladeChroniclesX</span></a></p>
