Appropriated as a coded message for escape, by the end of the <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/AmericanCivilWar" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AmericanCivilWar</span></a> it had become known through much of the eastern United States.
