Jasmine Mangalaseril 🧁Day 16 of 30 Days of Local Food: Oakridge Acres<br> <br> Each time I’ve driven to Oakridge Acres, a bison farm, I’ve caught a glimpse of those magnificent beasts in their paddocks. Big woolly, and surly, their lean meat is irony and minerally—I’ve made cedar-braised shortibs, burgers and samosas from their meats. The farm shop’s chest freezers are filled with meats from other local and nearby producers, and its shelves, bins and racks feature baking, produce and products grown nearby. Plus, they’ve a kitchen turning out delicious soups, entrees, and savoury pies.<br> <br> Oakridge Acres: 2132 Greenfield Rd., Ayr<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/BuyLocal?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#BuyLocal</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Canada?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Canada</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/SMB?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SMB</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/WaterlooRegion?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#WaterlooRegion</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/WellingtonCounty?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#WellingtonCounty</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/GuelphFoodies?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#GuelphFoodies</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Waterloofoodies?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Waterloofoodies</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/kitchenerfoodies?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#kitchenerfoodies</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/CambridgeFoodies?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#CambridgeFoodies</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/KitchenerWaterlooFoodies?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#KitchenerWaterlooFoodies</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/CanadianFood?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#CanadianFood</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/IndigenousFood?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#IndigenousFood</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Bison?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Bison</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/kweats?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#kweats</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/ExploreWaterlooRegion?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#ExploreWaterlooRegion</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Food?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Food</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Mastonom?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Mastonom</a>

Shantell Powell<p>Years ago, I once posted a recipe for chokecherry jam and a guy flipped out on me, telling me that chokecherries are deadly poison. I told him that he was wrong, and that chokecherries were eaten by my ancestors for thousands of years. They are an ingredient in pemmican. Dude went off the fricking rails so hard he had me second-guessing myself. And I grew up foraging. </p><p>I wonder why that triggered him so hard? People are weird. <a href="https://c.im/tags/chokecherries" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>chokecherries</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/pemmican" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pemmican</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/IndigenousFood" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IndigenousFood</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/foraging" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>foraging</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/forager" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>forager</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/WildCraft" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WildCraft</span></a></p>
