@Unixbigot In your aliexpress trawling have you turned up a reasonable solar MPPT-to-5VDC solution?

I want to power a thing with an internal battery off 5v. I have a big pile of 18650 cells if the solar module has built-in li-ion charge circuitry.

I haven't posted about my project MQTTy in a while, so here is a list of updates:

- MQTTy is available on Flathub.
- MQTTy is available on Windows 10/11 as a portable application, you can download it from the Releases page.
- Fully functional MQTT publisher.
- Missing "Subscriptions View" feature, I'm gonna start working on this one pretty soon.
- Missing "Workspaces" feature.

@MissGayle
Only if you drive a vehicle that is connected to the internet (which all teslas are) with upgradable software for motivity (Teslas are fully dependent on software for all functions). There is a price to pay for purchasing an EV or indeed and ICEV similarly connected and dependent that is rarely talked about and the dependency correlates with IoT roll-out in all manner of consumer products.

You wake one morning and find your coffee machine and toasters disabled by a govt agency because you failed to pay a fine. Your fridge won’t open. Your water and energy supplies are shut off, your tv non functional, and you can’t even get your electric bicycle out of the garage because it’s too heavy without assist and the garage door won’t open. At night, none of your lights come on and your front door is permanently unlocked. All the while installed security cameras, the cameras on your disabled mobile, iPad and PC are used to keep an eye on you. Total dystopia within the realm of current technology. We should all be afraid.

That’s where dark thoughts take you. Better to make informed decisions about what you purchase and question the need to purchase it. Above all, Vote well informed.

Sry if this reads like a rant (because it is)…

IoT devices turned into DDoS slaves? 🤖 Sounds wild, right? But it's totally true! Think GeoVision, Samsung... and that's just scratching the surface, really. Those End-of-Life devices? They're practically a free-for-all for botnet operators. Mirai sends its regards! 😈

So, what's the big deal? Well, IoT gadgets often have lousy security, and updates? Forget about 'em! Automated scans? They barely scratch the surface. If you want real security, you gotta go for manual pentests. ☝️

Alright, so what can you actually do? Update 'em (if that's even an option!), segment your network, and keep an eye on things with monitoring! An unpatched device? That's a ticking time bomb, plain and simple. 💣 And hey, don't forget: vendor security claims are often just a load of marketing fluff! 😬

Which "smart" devices with known weak spots are hiding out on your network? Have you even checked lately? 👇

Hi @FreeCAD 👋

I am working on an outdoor enclosure for a common Bluetooth thermometer.

This is a work in progress. I am waiting for the delivery of the battery contacts to make the final tweaks.

Will be printed in PETG and receive a coating of UV-resistant acrylic paint. White, to reduce the influence of thermal radiation.

If you’re a techie, interested in #hardware and #software systems you should know that an unnamed person has developed a chip that runs #python - natively. Python on hardware; no C, no VM, just a pure hardware implementation. And it’s 30x to 50x faster than alternative, non-hardware approaches. Use cases include #ML and #IoT and #sensors
