This is Glenn Burke. He was credited with inventing the high-five. He was also the first MLB player to come out as gay. Which he announced it in his retirement, in 1982.

So, yeah. A gay Black man invented one of the most popular gestures used by humans. One that expresses joy and celebration.

Yesterday we again visited the #HighFive #coffee location in Woodfin, NC along the French Broad River. It had been over a month, very unusual for us (because of all the rain.)

Also because of the extra water, the river was really high... and so was the wind. The funny thing here is the water in this river flows north (left to right) yet the wind was coming out of the north (right to left) so the surface of the water was very confused.

Nothing here had flooded, but there was damage at another park further north along Riverside Dr.

The color for today is light green.

After some yardwork this morning, we went for a drive along the river up to #HighFive, our favorite #coffee spot.

Carrier Park was at capacity, every person in #Asheville with a dog (which is all of them ) were walking somewhere along the river, enjoying the 65F temps and sun after all the recent rains.

The RAD was overflowing with visitors, and every outdoor eatery seemed busy. What a day.

We sat by the river as always, enjoying our chai, and seeing the water flow past. A bit cool in the shade, something to savor for later this week.

The French Broad River looking very brown, from all our recent rains. Sitting on this bank, the far bank is about 300 feet away, and that hillside is covered in deciduous trees which are beginning to leaf out - one set of light green color. The tree on our side of the river, whose branches are dipping down near the water also have leaves, a 2nd set of light green. The empty plastic chair next to us is the 3rd light green color. The river, which flows north (here, from left to right) is battling a VERY stiff breeze, so while sticks are moving slowly upriver, the whitecaps are all moving from right to left. Very strange to see. Woodfin, the town where this coffee shop is located, has not yet begun to build their kayak white water thing slightly downriver of this location. I shudder to think what it will do to the calm nature of this place. Ah, progress.

A gorgeous Monday here in #WNC, starting at 36F on its way to 70. Went to our favorite #coffee spot, #HighFive on the French Broad River.

Some attractive color in the trees, and not many people, so we snagged a table and chairs down by the water. One of the resident pups wandered by, but gave up quickly when he realized we only had chaider. Great stop.

Standing on the sloped bank of the river, the photo shows a small table with 2 green plastic chairs, and an attractive tree which has retained a few of its bright yellow leaves. The river is calm here, and the blue of the sky is reflected in the water.
Pretty much the same picture, but in black and white. It makes the tree look slightly creepy, and the shadows loom...
A friendly blond mix dog sits in the brown leaves. It has slightly floppy ears, black eyes, and a very black nose. It was quite friendly, but left when no food was offered. He visited every table and picnic bench in the area, always getting petted. The black dog that is also here all the time is not so outgoing...
