For decades, American Big Pharma has been scheming to undermine Australia’s Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), which has given Australians access to some of the cheapest medicines in the developed world. Their goal? Higher profits at the expense of affordable healthcare. They’d love to see Australia adopt a US-style privatised system, where individuals are forced to pay exorbitant prices for the same medicines we get for just a few dollars.

ABC News · Behind America's decades-long fight to dismantle the PBSBy Ian Verrender

Let’s talk about #Medicare and why we need to protect it.

Australia, we’re lucky to have a healthcare system that ensures everyone has access to medical care, regardless of their income. But let’s be real. We can’t take it for granted. We don’t want to become like the USA, where millions of people are left desperate, unable to afford life-saving treatments, or even a simple doctor’s visit.

Healthcare is a human right, not a privilege. Medicare means no one has to choose between putting food on the table and seeing a doctor. It means parents don’t have to fear going bankrupt because their child gets sick. It means dignity and care for all.

Let’s fight to keep it that way. Let’s protect Medicare, improve it, and ensure it stays universal. Because no one should ever be left behind when it comes to their health.

#PublicHealthCare should never be #monetized & #monopolized for profits. Doing so results in more avoidable deaths, disabilities & illnesses - it never results in better patient quality care. Monetizing #HealthCare makes it #inaccessible for majority of citizens who need it the most.

Fight all levels of government to keep public health care - public & fight for changes so that it is actually accessible to all citizens & not just the privileged.

Well dang I did not know this about #Medicare not covering care for #Dementia . It's too much to put responsibility on families to provide care. My ma is 93 and for years was winging it financially to try to stay in her house and receive in-home assistance. It became a crisis. For-profit assisted living is a giant upward transfer of working people's equity because they have to sell their houses to pay for it.
