#granularsynthesis

Today I'm releasing my most hip hop tracks made so far and it's on @larepubliquedesgranges . Named after the black metallic rock, this Coltan E.P consist of two recorded takes of a live set made within the same system : a Memphis beat and melody that are fed into various metallic resonators plus a bit of digital feedback on top.
I hope you’ll enjoy this organic/morphing instrumental hip hop !

New #ThingUmbrella example (#147): Computing the RGB waveform[1] of an image using slit scanning & column-based histograms via thi.ng/pixel & thi.ng/transducers.

Demo (images are only processed locally on your own device):

This is by far not the fastest way to compute this, but it explains the principle approach more clearly. Almost exactly 13 years ago (to the day), I used the same with Java and my toxiclibs to transform images, driving altogether 768 granular oscillators to create super complex, constantly morphing drone sounds. Some selected audio snippets & images are here:

[1] It's called "waveform scope" in Adobe Premiere, even though the term is misleading...

That was probably meant as a joke, but a good #SoundDesigner can make an entire track from nothing but one short #VocalSample, and you'd never know it.

The human voice has lots of great #textures and #harmonics that easily lend themselves to #SoundDesign techniques like #GranularSynthesis and #resampling. Add in a healthy dose of the usual effects (like #reverb, #delay, #chorus, #distortion, #repitch, etc.), and the possibilities are nearly limitless.

Sorry for the info dump; Sound design is one of my lifelong passions, and I can't help chiming in when someone brings up audio #sampling. I hope you at least found it somewhat interesting. 😅
