Cyber Yuki
As I'm rewatching Ghost in the Shell: SAC, I've been paying attention to the city landscapes.

So far I've noticed the following things:

There are large areas with tall residential buildings and elevated highways; these must be for affluent people, I suppose.

I'm sure there must be industrial-only areas, but I haven't paid full attention. Gotta watch out for them.

Slums. Lots of slums adjacent to tall building areas. Obviously the slums don't have much vertical space. It really puts poverty into perspective.

There are warehouse districts next to seaports! A lot of backhand deals are done there.

Motoko's alternate hideout is with one of her female lovers' house. They are houses over the hill, with panoramic windows and privacy dishes below. It's interesting that the windows form a type of flying saucer, so that when looked from below you can only see the metal plates. And yet, when you watch over a distance you can see all the city. These remind me of the hills that are in current Hong Kong.

There's also a very noticeable commercial district, filled with casinos, retail stores and shop windows.

Obviously this might or might not be the same city; after all, Japan's a huge region so the episodes can take place over distinct regions of Japan.

In any case I really need to rethink my city's urban design. Perhaps I should expand my country to cover more areas... but I'm not sure. Maybe just make the city larger and give it more districts so it actually looks and feels large?

#GhostInTheShell #Cyberpunk #worldbuilding #amWritingSF
