Day eleven: ☢️💧

“About 90% of the #nuclear generation capacity the #Coalition proposes to build would not have access to enough water to run safely, according to a report commissioned by #LiberalsAgainstNuclear.

The report authored by Prof. #AndrewCampbell, a visiting fellow at the Australian National University (#ANU) , assessed nuclear energy’s #water needs and the available #supply across the seven sites where the Coalition has proposed new reactors.”

“Well done Angus”

If you remember the member for #Hume is insisting the Federal Government if the #LNP wins election will purchase, run and make a profit using nuclear power.

No mention of locations of power generation sites (I assume existing sites) nor is there any mention of #geological, #enviromental or #NuclearWaste disposal studies.

The Chikanishing Trail, Killarney Provincial Park Ontario Canada was a rough, rugged trail over rocky terrain and the odd rickety, weathered wooden bridge or boardwalk. The fall foliage was stunning especially with the pink granite. Click link to view for #FreeShipping North America on #wallart

We have these amazing karst canyons all over the island & on several surrounding gulf islands. Large karst networks of caves & canyons are found in Cowichan Valley, Comox Valley & all through the less populated North Island. Karst sites on Quadra Island & some islands in the Discovery Islands archipelago are being researched. Haida Gwaii has big karst formations network.

I find #geological #karst formations very fascinating. I enjoy exploring them when there's an opportunity to do so. I've found ancient old growth tree crystals in some of the karst formation forests here - they're magical, magnificent & hard to find if you're not looking hard in the right areas.

The fast-eroding cliffs at #Happisburgh, Norfolk exhibit splendid exposures of a "tripartite" (like neapolitan ice cream) Quaternary #geological succession - massive brown/grey #glacial till at the base, overlain by dark, laminated pro-glacial lake muds, then by glaciofluvial sands.
Two photos show infilled channels in the upper surface of the till, and one shows where the upper two units have been eroded back, exposing the upper surface of the half million year old Happisburgh Till Member.

#China is home to around 200 #tiankeng, which are mostly distributed from the central #Shaanxi province down to the #GuangxiZhuang autonomous region in the southwest. Roughly 1/3 of the country consists of #karst — the highest proportion of overall surface area of any country in the world — compared with just under 1/5 in the United States.

Safety review halted at #Japan’s #Tsuruga NPP over data tampering

19 August 2021

"APC said at the time the altering of data was unintentional and was done to merely reflect a change in the observation method of the fault. However, NRA was unconvinced, and Chairman Toyoshi Fuketa said the company's explanation over the handling of the raw data was 'preposterous.' In order to restart the reactor in compliance with the stricter regulations imposed following the 2011 #Fukushima accident, #JAPC has been trying to disprove #geological expert opinion, published in March 2015, that the fault is active."

Day20 #ArtAdventCalendar Sometimes I feel "stone-agey" in #design, especially after a #hike in a very special mountain #forest. An ancient #ochre quarry is hidden on the slope. #Legends tell of a magical snake at a spring, often a reference to #geological features. There is still some eroded rock in different ochre colours. I first hammer it into small pieces until I can grind it. This produces pure ochre pigment.

#PBS's #Eons #series adds to my skepticism that #life has found just the right mix of #celestial and #geological #environment and ingredients to create and sustain life as we'd recognize it, and that beings we could potentially communicate with exist at this point in time and aren't long gone, or yet to come.

I don't believe #Earth is the only place to ever have rich, abundant life, I do wonder on the timing of such existences given the vastness of #space and #time.
