A land fit for all our futures<p>This week I quit my <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/PublicSector" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PublicSector</span></a> role</p><p>It's been a very long time coming</p><p>It was the gibberish and <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/hype" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hype</span></a> around <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/AI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AI</span></a> that finally did for me</p><p>On top of the myopic pursuit of <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/growth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>growth</span></a> and worrying about <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/CompetitiveAdvantage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CompetitiveAdvantage</span></a> (in a world on the edge of collapse)</p><p>And the lack of recognition, ever, that their entire <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/GeoAI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GeoAI</span></a> programme came out of my work - the <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/research" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>research</span></a> that I initiated and the team that I trained </p><p>And that that work, and the amazing, but tiny, teams now working on it, remain under-resourced and locked into a predatory platform provider </p><p>And the financial disadvantage of being in a role that is intended to work to longer than annual horizons in an organisation that cannot retain even a Teams message for longer than 6 months</p><p>I do see recent potential that all that could change but I no longer have the stamina to see those changes through</p><p>My last act, with two of my gorgeous colleagues, was to draft a <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/ResponsibleAI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ResponsibleAI</span></a> charter - it needs a lot of work but there was a glimmer of hope in the way it was received</p><p>My heart and spirit are broken, but I feel flutters of excitement about what lies ahead</p><p><a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/GenAI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GenAI</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/AIHype" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AIHype</span></a></p>
