A country can be removed from the United Nations General Assembly via a vote based on the recommendation of the Security Council.

"A Member of the United Nations, which has persistently violated the Principles contained in the present Charter, may be expelled from the Organisation by the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the Security Council," Article 6 of the charter states.

The #UnitedNations #GeneralAssembly on Thursday elected #Denmark, #Greece, #Pakistan, #Panama, and Somalia to the 15-member #UNSecurityCouncil for two-year terms starting on Jan. 1, 2025.

The Security Council is the only #UN body that can make legally binding decisions such as imposing #sanctions and authorizing #UseOfForce

Isn’t it funny that Ukraine, currently under attack and under siege by Russia abstained from a UN vote for a ceasefire to protect civilians in an area continuously under bombing raids by an invading force?

Even the Russian Federation is ironically calling for a ceasefire when they refuse to back out of Ukraine and continuously sending troops and missiles to destroy the country. Obviously they’ll vote against whatever the US position is.

There was some debate today in the #Virginia #GeneralAssembly's Privileges and Elections senate committee over how many states DO NOT limit political contributions to state politicians — five or 11?
