Łukasz Langa<p>🎙️ Time for another episode of the core․py podcast!</p><p>In Episode ♠️2️⃣1️⃣ we are talking trash. Absolute garbage. argv minus one<p>One problem with <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/GarbageCollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GarbageCollection</span></a> is that it can only free one kind of resource: heap memory.</p><p>For all other resources, like sockets and file handles, you still need some other reliable and convenient mechanism to free them in a timely fashion.</p><p>And if you have that…why not use it on heap memory?</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/programming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>programming</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/GC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GC</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/Rust" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Rust</span></a></p>
Ross of Ottawa<p>Up early and out in the dark to put out the garbage in the windy morning. -16C out there and -27 with the windchill. </p><p>At our last place an early pickup was rare and I could often saunter out late morning or even early afternoon and not miss them. Now I think we're rather near the start of the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/garbageCollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>garbageCollection</span></a> route, as they often come before 8am, the perky bastards.</p>
Dwemthy<p>Just learned that you don't still have to call `Bitmap.recycle()` when you're done with a Bitmap on Android. It's known how to garbage collect that since ... Honeycomb ⁉️ </p><p>That little bit of programming trivia has just been in my memory all these years, like an unrecycled Bitmap in fact</p><p>Can collect that brain garbage.</p><p><a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/androiddev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>androiddev</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/programming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>programming</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/garbagecollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>garbagecollection</span></a></p>
