Pete Prodoehl 🍕<p>I love FreshRSS but it no longer works in a desktop browser due to some cookie weirdness.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/FreshRSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreshRSS</span></a></p>
Thomas Frans 🇺🇦<p>Something I thought was old and boring until I tried it for myself: <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/RSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RSS</span></a></p><p>I especially like it in combination with a way to sync/backup your feeds, like <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/FreshRSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreshRSS</span></a>, which I'm self-hosting. It's duct taped together for now as I first wanted to try it out, but I'm liking it so far. I had seen those RSS buttons on websites for a while and I never had a way to use them. I guess that's the fun of self-hosting: you notice a problem, and you can always find a solution.</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SelfHost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SelfHost</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SelfHosting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SelfHosting</span></a></p>

Paul Chambers🚧<p>A recent update on my <a href="https://oldfriends.live/tags/Android" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Android</span></a> phone messed up my PWA apps, including <a href="https://oldfriends.live/tags/freshrss" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>freshrss</span></a> and <a href="https://oldfriends.live/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mastodon</span></a>. The top status/ notification bar was overlapping the PWA, making what was underneath unaccessible and partially blocked.</p><p>I had to go into Settings - Display - Camera cutout - Your PWA App browser or program - Show camera cutout and changed the default 'auto' to 'hide camera cutout.'</p><p>If anyone comes across that, give that a try <a href="https://oldfriends.live/tags/mastoadmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mastoadmin</span></a>. James Cridland<p>I’ve got my <a href="https://bne.social/tags/freshrss" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>freshrss</span></a> installation automatically updating its feeds now, so that’s nice.</p><p>Amazon Linux AL2023 doesn’t include cron, preferring to use systemctl timers. So I’ve added how to achieve this in my blog post here, which is really for me when I come to reinstall this box in years to come, but in case it’s useful to someone else..</p><p><a href="https://james.cridland.net/blog/2025/fresh-rss-tips/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">james.cridland.net/blog/2025/f</span><span class="invisible">resh-rss-tips/</span></a></p>
James Cridland<p>Tonight's tinkering:<br>a) gracefully restarting the Apache and PHP-FPM processes hourly on my image resizer box, in lieu of understanding why it keeps falling over.<br>b) Hopefully getting my <a href="https://bne.social/tags/FreshRSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreshRSS</span></a> install to automatically check the RSS feeds regularly. Will write that up, once I've got some vague clue whether it's actually doing it.<br>c) Configuring my first HTML/XPATH scraper for FreshRSS, because ARN - Australia's worst radio group - has deliberately removed its RSS feed for its press website<br>d) Understanding how to get full content from FreshRSS, because a friend of mine has a partial feed</p>
James Cridland<p>Boringly, put this on the internet here: <a href="https://james.cridland.net/blog/2025/fresh-rss-tips/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">james.cridland.net/blog/2025/f</span><span class="invisible">resh-rss-tips/</span></a> (along with simple installation details which are entirely missing from the <a href="https://bne.social/tags/FreshRSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreshRSS</span></a> website)</p>
Joel :casio: :blobcatderpy:<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://bne.social/@james" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>james</span></a></span> I made a <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/FreshRSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreshRSS</span></a> theme a while back, it's the one called Nord theme!</p><p>Although it does require some updates since some of the html structuring has changed in recent versions, I should make a PR again..</p>
James Cridland<p>Using <a href="https://bne.social/tags/FreshRSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreshRSS</span></a> as your feed reader? You can make it look modern and lovely.</p><p>1. In the settings menu, go to "User extensions" and turn on User CSS.<br>2. In the settings menu for *that*, add the following in "Additional CSS rules"...</p><p>html, body{font-family:system-ui !important;}</p><p>3. Profit.</p><p>(system-ui is your system's standard font-face, which is typically built to look really good on your machine. And, unlike the default font used by FreshRSS out of the box, it actually has *real* bold and italics.)</p>
