Side-to-side tail wagging is said to indicate that a deer feels at ease—but I’m fairly certain this one isn’t comfortable with me being here.

While waiting for my son’s game to begin, I am thinking about setting up camp on that beach island in this creek and spending a peaceful, quiet day there. But I also know that high water would probably wash everything away…

I had two hours before sunset to wrap up my busy Saturday with some fly fishing. It doesn’t completely clear my mind, but I think it’s what keeps me going

Pretty hot today, not sure I feel like fishing. But I didn’t get out enough this week, and the weekend will be packed with my son’s soccer tournament. I think I should try to fish after work… although I still have a lot to get done today

Summer soccer season has started for my son
The practice field isn’t just fairly close to home (still about 20 minutes), it’s also right near some nice fishing spots
Weekday fly fishing opportunity
Walking down the trail along the creek, I keep heading downstream in search of a starting point to fish upstream. Each spot looks better than the last, but at some point, I need to compromise and begin… I need to go back to the soccer field to pick up my son

Yesterday, I had planned to go fly fishing while my daughter was at a graduation party, but she got a ride. Instead, after some lab work, I went to my son’s soccer game. He had another game today, followed by his team banquet, so no fishing, it’s postponed to tomorrow

It’s been busy, and the summer ahead will be busy. I will get creative about finding time for fly fishing and walks in the woods
Yesterday was my second (guided) forest bathing experience. I love everything about it. I enjoy hiking too, but there is a lot to be said about just BEING in the woods instead of moving through them. I spent half an hour sitting in a little nest in the middle of several entwined oak and ash trees.
I could seriously do this once or twice a week like morning yoga.

Preseason soccer training has started with my son’s new team While he was on the new field, I explored a nearby creek, realizing that I’ve been this exact spot before
Great that it’s only six minutes from the field
Cobbs Creek (Karakung), PA
Within walking distance of my home, this section of the stream no longer holds trout, but it still supports a variety of minnows and sunfish species Brook trout once thrived here, before the area was developed

One hour of fly fishing in the woods during the weekend wasn’t quite enough to get the week started
So I spent five minutes by this creek before picking up my daughter
And it was a great five minutes

It was a very busy weekend. But I still found a silent hour by this creek yesterday

Fly fishing and beer don’t quite mix, but this pebble beach in the middle of the creek feels like the perfect spot for it I still don’t know how to mix them, though

Started thinking about the weekend It’s going to be a busy one, but I’m sure I’ll find some time for a bit of fly fishing in the woods

There is usually a “hidden” (well… not really) spot just about 100 yards from a popular one Just need to stretch a little to find a gem

Not an easy spot, but I got a hit I think it was a pretty big one
After about 10 seconds, it was gone
The fish that gets away always feels like huge
