@samloonie Yeah, in good (or even just fair) weather, they fit in multiple flights per hour during tourist season.

The Waco is a relatively-modern Second World War era trainer (student pilots often still started in biplanes back then). If you want to see even older, First-World-War-era biplanes still flying ("blip" switches and all),, check out the Great War Flying Museum at Brampton Airport:

@samloonie Glad you spotted one! There have been regular Waco flying tours out of Rockcliffe Airport (by the Aviation Museum) for many years. I often shared the circuit and the fuel pumps with them when I had a Piper at the airport.

I've been watching videos on gliders and I've never thought about doing it. I fly powered aircraft so "why would I want to do that?"

After watching some videos, It looks fun as hell! After Air Venture I'm going to probably contact the Wisconsin Soaring Society and see about having someone talk my ear off about gliders and then maybe go up in one.

Delta Airlines "dynamic pricing" using AI: ~3% of domestic flights were sold using AI pricing over the past six months. Goal is to boost that to 20%, and eventually get rid of static pricing entirely.

I actually had three more short videos from my flight yesterday that I missed in my little compilation. These are from my flight yesterday and show much closer cloud surfing from the morning.

Caution: May have loud engine noise

A successful journey! My kid was thrilled to get to hang out in fire trucks. I had to take off into clouds and then most of the trip down there I was above the cloud layer. There was a VFR aircraft trying to scud run below me somewhere and knowing the terrain in that area I'm not sure that was a good idea with most fields being IFR. Looking at their ground track now, they were flying down a river.

Anyway, I did the RNAV LNAV 29 into KPDC, which got us just under the clouds. Big hill off the right side when you come out of the clouds (which is a little intimidating). We had a bit of a crowd watching us land and taxi in since only two aircraft flew in.

The way back was more exciting with storm buildups and having a long stretch in the middle with no radio contact (I think Madison approach has a bad transmitter). I was told by Chicago that they can hear me just fine so I pretty much just advised them what I was doing until I got far enough to contact Milwaukee. Then it was time to dodge buildups because I don't want to fly through storms. Easy as requesting 30 degrees left deviation. Landing at KATW was an uneventful visual approach.

Great day, but now it is hot and humid and I don't like that.

I am planning a flight to KPDC (Prairie du Chien, WI) tomorrow and it looks like I'll get to use my IFR rating to get there. They are hosting a fly-in/drive-in event: Wings Over PDC 2025!

Sitting on a plane going to Heathrow from Doha. It has got free starlink Internet :)

Just taken this photo out of the window at 04:20UTC over Central Europe. I'm looking directly away from the sun and you can see the annular halo/rainbow (called a Pilot's Glory) from the shadow of the plane.

I've only seen this once before. Nature can surprise you when you least expect it.
