Jonathan Hogg<p>If you want to see some example code, there is a bunch of little scripts here:</p><p><a href="https://github.com/jonathanhogg/flitter-examples" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/jonathanhogg/flitte</span><span class="invisible">r-examples</span></a></p><p>At some point I will put sample outputs in there too so you can see what they do without running them, but it won’t be for a few weeks…</p><p>If you’re wondering what the paradigm is, it’s roughly JSX but with a functional language: evaluate an expression 60 times a second to generate a node tree that describes what the screen looks like</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/FlitterLang" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FlitterLang</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ProceduralArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ProceduralArt</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GenerativeArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GenerativeArt</span></a></p>
Jonathan Hogg<p>Seeking generative/procedural artist beta users! (PLEASE BOOST!)</p><p>It’s now 2 years since I open-sourced my pet language, Flitter. I’ve used it for multiple live gigs, interactive installations and video artworks</p><p>However, I have no idea if it has value beyond my use. I need people to try it, tell me what they hate and what sucks most in the docs</p><p>You need to be comfortable at the CLI, example visuals on the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/FlitterLang" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FlitterLang</span></a> tag</p><p><a href="https://github.com/jonathanhogg/flitter" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">github.com/jonathanhogg/flitter</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ProceduralArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ProceduralArt</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GenerativeArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GenerativeArt</span></a></p>
Jonathan Hogg<p>As promised, here's a video from last night's first unveiling of my "magic portal" installation at the Hour House event in Skelton and Guisborough.</p><p>The participants here are being captured with a Kinect depth camera and inserted into a 3D scene with virtual lighting. Depth information is used to allow the live figures to stand behind, in-front of or even over virtual objects.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/FlitterLang" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FlitterLang</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/CreativeCoding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CreativeCoding</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/InstallationArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>InstallationArt</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/OutputArts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OutputArts</span></a></p>

Jonathan Hogg<p>There it is! The Flitter repo just hit its 1000th commit! I'd love to say that this was some exciting new piece of functionality, but it was just one in a long series of commits of me trying to get the GitHub workflows setup for properly publishing Flitter to PyPI. Still, the good news there is that I'm inching towards an official release…</p><p><a href="https://github.com/jonathanhogg/flitter" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/jonathanhogg/flitte</span><span class="invisible">r</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/FlitterLang" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FlitterLang</span></a></p>
Jonathan Hogg<p>Inspired by work from <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://genart.social/@scdollins" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>scdollins</span></a></span> (see link) and <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://oldbytes.space/@incre_ment" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>incre_ment</span></a></span> to make this in <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/FlitterLang" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FlitterLang</span></a>. Really useful exercise to see the ways in which what I have makes this difficult and the ways it makes it easy. I need to think harder about the packing algorithm and how to generalise it.</p><p><a href="https://genart.social/@scdollins/110968214501357668" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">genart.social/@scdollins/11096</span><span class="invisible">8214501357668</span></a></p>
