It would be feasible to grow that Corps into a <a href="https://aus.social/tags/EuropeanArmy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EuropeanArmy</span></a> which, over time, would make NATO a secondary security blanket and reduce US interference. Jonathan Emmesedi<p>Although, sadly*, I agree in principle with this call for a European army, I'm afraid that I am not optimistic about a meaningful response. </p><p>Quite aside from the tremendous organizational difficulties, I am not sure if the political will is there.</p><p>Will hitherto Atlanticist countries like the UK be ready to switch course after decades of resisting any real moves in this direction? I've long wished that the UK would align more with Europe, but the British capacity for self-deception when it comes to UK-US relations is massive.</p><p>Will countries with rising Eurosceptic parties be ready to contribute to an expensive supranational project?</p><p>Are countries like Spain, Italy, or Greece willing to risk blood and treasure in a conflict with Russia?</p><p>Will Germany be able to resist both internal and external opposition to their participation in such a project?
