Feral Aunt Nessie :v_bi:
Stumbled upon a Youtube vid today where a sleep scientist talking about how sleep can improve performances of elite athletes. It was fascinating in a way. But it also reminded me about so many misconceptions and odd theories about sleep hygiene.

One theory suggests, not to use your bed for anything beside sleep and sex. Which I find quiet rigid cause lying down is part of my regulation routine. Even if I'm not being super disregulated, I still like to lie down now and then. Maybe I'm lazy, but it gives me so much comfort, mentally and physically. My own therapist agrees with me on this. She said - some people's nervous systems regulate better when they're in a horizontal position.

I mean even if I'm not just regulating emotions, there are lots of other reasons to spend time in bed. It gives me comfort. It is my safe space. But I feel like common culture and all these sleep studies are just dismissing these issues in favor of performance and other capitalist ideologies.

Now I'm thinking, how much is it a neurodivergent thing? So, fellow Autists, thought? Do you have sleep issues? And do you also spend a long amount of time in bed not sleeping? How much do you think it's affecting your nightly sleep sessions? #sleep #actuallyAutistic #neurodivergent #emotionRegulation
