mkivinen<p>Mockava-Warsaw train trip was smooth and uneventful, except for announcements, which sometimes worked just fine, and sometimes the PA system gave its most ear-tearing howls and shrieks. A collective holding of ears, laughing, ensued. It was kind of fun, actually.</p><p>Also: a real restaurant car, with actual (simple) cooking happening. Sockets not working. Not even pretence of wifi existing. Ten minutes late. Two half an hour breaks. Would and will do it again.</p><p><a href="https://toot.community/tags/TrainTravel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TrainTravel</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/EasternRail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EasternRail</span></a></p>
mkivinen<p>A note from the quite full Vilnius-Mockava train: snacks available, the waiter comes to check even the second class. Seems to be the same snack menu than in the Valga-Vilnius train.</p><p><a href="https://toot.community/tags/TrainTravel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TrainTravel</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/EasternRail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EasternRail</span></a></p>
mkivinen<p>OK, technically there is a <a href="https://toot.community/tags/FirstClass" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FirstClass</span></a> in Vilnius-Mockava train, but you can't purchase a seat there in connection to buying a Vilnius-Warsaw / Krakow ticket. Bought separately the price is higher. </p><p>With a combination ticket, check the class of your car, since the difference is not too visible. There are no reservations in the 2nd class, so if someone is ushering you from your seat claiming they have a reservation, you are probably in the first class. I hear.</p><p><a href="https://toot.community/tags/TrainTravel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TrainTravel</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/EasternRail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EasternRail</span></a></p>
mkivinen<p>Yes, I believe I’ll choose train over bus for Tallinn-Vilnius trip. </p><p>Some notes: Tallinn-Valga train has no seat reservation nor restaurant but it does have sockets. Valga-Vilnius has some snacks available, even if not as large variety as the menu suggests, but no sockets (as far as I could spot). Both trains on time and occasionally full, and interesting combinations of commuter and long distance trains. </p><p>Tallinn 10:25 - Vilnius 21:05. Breaks in Valga and Riga.</p><p><a href="https://toot.community/tags/trainTravel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>trainTravel</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/easternRail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>easternRail</span></a></p>
mkivinen<p>Train change in Valga was smooth, as soon as I realised I should exit the train to the platform, not towards the station building. There’s a 20-ish minutes break, if one wants to stretch or do something else equally extravagant.</p><p><a href="https://toot.community/tags/traintravel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>traintravel</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/easternrail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>easternrail</span></a></p>
mkivinen<p>Next leg of my… <a href="https://toot.community/tags/easternrail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>easternrail</span></a>? Train from Tallinn to Vilnius, change of trains in Valga. Until Valga (arrival in three plus hours) we’ll travel in a commuter. </p><p>Before, I’ve done this leg by bus and I’m eager to see if train is better. It is more expensive, has longer travel time and demands an unholy early ferry from Helsinki. But it is a train, so.</p><p><a href="https://toot.community/tags/traintravel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>traintravel</span></a></p>
