Solarpunk Presents Podcast<p>7.5: Ariel &amp; Christina Discuss: Four Great Things We Take for Granted and Ought to Fight to Keep</p><p>In these dark times of (American) political backsliding/the general rise of fascism in the Global North, Ariel and Christina consider four things that we'd made great progress on, to the point of taking those achievements for granted. Let's take the time to acknowledge them and the danger we are in of losing them. Because how can we fight for what we don't recognize as being incredible yet fragile?</p><p>PS: We definitely didn't plan on this coming out on the day of the Canadian federal election, but so it goes. Dr Manabu Sakamoto (he/him)<p>I’ve done my share of criticising overzealous DEI activists or ineffective performative actions, but that is only because I disagree with implementation or strategy and not that I think DEI initiatives are inherently bad. Rebecca Nordquist<p>Talks by Isabella Spaans and Anne-Roos Verbree (both from UMC Utrecht) on role models for students in human MedEd gave me much to think about; we very much need diverse role models in veterinary MedEd, but this needs careful attention. Being the only lighthouse in the midst of other kinds of buildings can be a lonely place to be. </p><p>I've no answers, but more thoughts here: <a href="https://rebeccanordquist.edublogs.org/2024/05/20/role-models-edi-and-lighthouses/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">rebeccanordquist.edublogs.org/</span><span class="invisible">2024/05/20/role-models-edi-and-lighthouses/</span></a></p><p>2/2</p><p><a href="https://akademienl.social/tags/EDI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EDI</span></a> <a href="https://akademienl.social/tags/Diversity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Diversity</span></a> <a href="https://akademienl.social/tags/VetMed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>VetMed</span></a> <a href="https://akademienl.social/tags/VetEd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>VetEd</span></a> <a href="https://akademienl.social/tags/RoleModels" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RoleModels</span></a> <a href="https://akademienl.social/tags/Veterinary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Veterinary</span></a> <a href="https://akademienl.social/tags/HigherEd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HigherEd</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://akademienl.social/@faculteit_diergeneeskunde" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>faculteit_diergeneeskunde</span></a></span></p>

Ruth Mottram<p>Most of the specialised computers/servers at work are named for DWEMs* (or pagan gods/goddesses), so at casual lunch conversation yesterday we brainstormed a few <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/WomenInSTEM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WomenInSTEM</span></a> names for the next generation of servers (we came up with Meitner, Hammer + Lehman, maybe Curie is too obvious) - but why stick with white women, what other more diverse candidates should we have for naming servers etc after? Would love some more suggestions to take to IT.<br><a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/EDI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EDI</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/Diversity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Diversity</span></a></p><p>*(Dead, White, European Males).</p>
