Did you know that a part of the Duluth skywalk system is called the Northwest Passage? Yep.
"Some portions of the skywalk system may see relatively little traffic these days. But Forsman pointed out that other segments, including the Northwest Passage, remain busy and continue to provide vital links. So, he considers any suggestion of a wholesale closure to be inconceivable."

Couldn't help imagining the inescapable Menards jingle when I read this story—
"Plumbing, electrical, appliances too! Somehow the savings come right back to you!"
"Gajeski said its condition is better than what’s been portrayed and its facilities department has inmates learning plumbing and electrician skills who work to make quick repairs."

"I'm nice until I sense that they're just making stuff up on the fly, which happens so often,” he said. “I'm pretty well-versed in data practice laws and things like that, open meeting laws. And if people are just making stuff up, I just can't stand it, and I do get edgy."

Interesting obituary in the Duluth paper about an immigrant who really liked downhill skiing.
'Paul was born in Otepaa, Estonia, on June 17, 1928, as the youngest of five children. At 15, he joined the Estonian National Guard to fight the Russian Army, which [son] Marc said jumpstarted his love for skiing. Paul and his family had to flee in 1944 after Russia took over Estonia. He ended up in a displaced persons camp in Augsburg, Germany, until a friendship from that camp led to a job offer and a room in Duluth with the YMCA.
'After 12 years with the YMCA, Paul opened Continental Ski Shop in 1961, according to a story in the Duluth News Tribune. In 1976, Ski Industries of America named Continental its Midwestern Retailer of the Year. Paul promoted skiing in the region and was influential, with several other ski enthusiasts in Duluth, in making the Spirit Mountain Recreational Center.'
