Jonathan Emmesedi<p><a href="https://apobangpo.space/@pixelcats/114820949371820314" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">apobangpo.space/@pixelcats/114</span><span class="invisible">820949371820314</span></a></p><p>A conversation amongst <a href="https://c.im/tags/Kpop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kpop</span></a> fans icluded this mention of the variety of fans and the importance of inclusivity and mutual respect in the fandom here on Mastodon - qualities sorely lacking in some other Kpop spaces.</p><p>Anyway, that part of the conversation reminded me of the history of inclusivity and mutual respect, which in turn set me thinking about religious "toleration" in early modern European history, which in turn reminded me of the Edict of Torda in the Transylvania of 1568:</p><p><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edict_of_Torda" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edict_of</span><span class="invisible">_Torda</span></a></p><p>I was going to finish there with a pronouncement of "There's a lot more to Transylvania than Dracula!" which is true, but, on reflection, a bad note on which to end because it sounds smug and condescending. </p><p>Yes, early modern history is fascinating, anybody who can visit Transylvania should do so, and "toleration" deserves much attention from both a historical and philosophical point of view - but shouldn't I be more alive to today's interest in vampirism and to goth subcultures ?
