:ClimateJusticeSocial: Question for members of climatejustice.social and climatejustice.global.

Would you be interested in a place for us to discuss topics concerning the two sibling servers internally?
I'm thinking of starting a #Discourse forum where we could:
* do community building
* brainstorm ideas for the instances and the Fediverse
* talk about our principles, rules, guidelines and moderation
* ask questions and help each other
* do whatever else we come up with

:discourse: discourse.org/ is a free libre forum software that is working on ActivityPub compatibility, meaning it is/will be part of the Fediverse, able to federate topics and categories with other Discourse forums, #lemmy and possibly Mastodon and lots of other parts of the Fediverse.
For now you'd have to create an account on the forum to participate in discussions though.

I think it would be good for us, if more people were more involved in decisions and discussions about the instances as well as in community building and socializing.

What do you think?

One thing everyone should realize when they go on to those places is that these are **not** centrally managed by a corporation which also means that these **cost money to run**

That means that you will have to fork money for it you won't get it for quote unquote free or you pay for it with your data, or your usage patterns

You will have to pay actual USD or EUR for them!

Speaking of #EuropeanAlternatives, is there any for #TransactionalMail ? Not email providers, not newsletter providers, but those third parties that offer you a mail server to send email notifications and etc from your website.

In my case, it's for #Discourse instances. I'm still using #Mailgun which, well, may or maybe not count as European given its owner #Sinch, but also I'd like to migrate to a more fair and social option if possible (also not to just a brand cover with AWS underneath).

I'm looking for a new comment system for my #Hugo blog, and I'm not seeing any clearly great options.

I've been using #Commento for #comments on my blog for a few years now, and it's about time to switch comment systems.

Commento has been effectively unmaintained for 4 years (see gitlab.com/commento/commento). Their (paid) hosted version has been continuing to work, but I've seen increasing numbers of errors lately, so it's time to move.

I'd really *love* something that could integrate semi-natively with #activitypub so new blog posts could show up in Mastodon and Mastodon replies would show up as comments, *but* I don't want to require a fediverse account for commenters; that rules out most (all?) of the embedded-Mastodon comment options.. After looking through Hugo's somewhat-outdated list of commenting options (gohugo.io/content-management/c), it looks like #Discourse is the only option that even *slightly* fits that, and it's a lot heavier-weight than I really want to run today. Hours-of-maintenance-per-comment should be less than 1, thanks.

Basic requirements:

- Either easy to self-host or has a cheap hosted option.
- Allows anonymous comments plus common external auth options.
- Possible to import comments from Commento, possibly requiring code on my part, but it needs to allow arbitrary names, etc.
- Works with static sites.
- Not a privacy disaster
- If self-hosted, ideally written in something sane -- Go, Rust, etc. *Ideally* it's a single binary that listens to HTTP and stores comments in Postgres.
- Supports Markdown.

Does anyone have anything that they're really happy with?

You know how the #Discourse forum software hijacks your Ctrl+F and opens this dialog in the corner?

I was always annoyed by that! But today, I learned that you can press Ctrl+F twice, and it will go back to your browser's search!

Note, however, that not all posts of that thread might be loaded until you've scrolled to them, so in hindsight, I understand why they defaulted to this behavior…

Hello Fediverse! Feels good to be back! With this account I hope to make my small contributions in #romance #horrorliterature research and the #discourse around #horror, #fear, the #uncanny and #affect in general, but also to share some thoughts on the current political and philosophical discourse concerning #affecttheory #psychoanalysis #existentialism and #cosmotechnics

Writing primarily in ENG and GER but also in RU, IT, PT, ESP and maybe even FR!

Of all the things wrong with my language* I find that my ableism is the hardest to get rid of.

I try, then I fail, then I try again. I will keep trying until I no longer fail. And I try to tell myself every time I don't fall into ableism, it's is one discursive act improved.

* That I know of.

An intriguing new project by @raphael provides a pluggable #django app with the models, views and background tasks to let any django application integrate with any other service that uses #ActivityPub

Enabling popular "generic" web platforms like django, laravel etc. to integrate with the #fediverse complements the development of plugins for more specific apps like #wordpress, #discourse etc. and the dedicated "social media" type servers like #mastodon and #pixelfed
