Amsterdam_XXXThe sculpture at Metrostation Weesperplein honors the old “Weesperpoortstation” (1843–1939), the former railway station from which to depart to Utrecht and Arnhem. Carved in sandstone, this artwork was erected in 1941. <br> <br> Created by architect Piet Kramer in the ‘Amsterdamse School’ style, it displays three layered historical locomotives representing the railways’ evolution. 🚂🚃🚄<br> <br> The first steam train between Amsterdam and Haarlem (sept. 20, 1839) drove at the speed of 30 km/h and was pulled by a locomotive called “De Arend”.
