Many do not turn profits; most operate at steady losses that are absorbed by philanthropic and government funders and a variety of research institutions including labs, universities, and colleges. Osma Suominen<p>The National Library of Finland (my employer, part of the University of Helsinki) started a Mastodon instance at some.kansalliskirjasto.fi . There are two active accounts for services provided by the library: <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://some.kansalliskirjasto.fi/@Finto" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>Finto</span></a></span> and <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://some.kansalliskirjasto.fi/@julkaisuarkistot" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>julkaisuarkistot</span></a></span> .</p><p>This is an experiment; other services may follow. There is no "main" account for the library itself.</p><p>In parallel, the National Library has also created an account on Bluesky: <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://bsky.brid.gy/r/https://bsky.app/profile/kansalliskirjasto.fi" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>kansalliskirjasto.fi</span></a></span> .</p><p><a href="https://sigmoid.social/tags/NationalLibrary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NationalLibrary</span></a> <a href="https://sigmoid.social/tags/library" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>library</span></a> <a href="https://sigmoid.social/tags/Finto" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Finto</span></a> <a href="https://sigmoid.social/tags/DSpace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DSpace</span></a></p>
