This beautiful, ancient yellow #cedar tree has a massive, moss covered trunk. It is estimated at over 500 years old. There are very few #ElderTrees of this scale found outside of protected parks on Southern Vancouver Island now. The few remaining unprotected old growth forest tracts should be conserved for stability & longevity of our wild, ancient ecosystems & for the future generations to enjoy/admire/study.
The need to protect old growth forests has been the case for decades but even more important in present times because of accelerated climate change & the increased greedy desperation of corporate ecociders & our governments who aid/abet the pillaging which destroys wild environments that are essential for humans to sustain our lives on Earth. Valuable medicines are found & several medicines have yet to be found in these old growth, coastal temperate, wild rainforests. We need to protect these ancient forests for the above listed & many more important reasons.
Our coastal temperate #rainforests on Vancouver Island are super lush with so much #biodiversity. They are worth conserving & protecting. These forests are also full of medicines, some yet to be discovered.
My layered #PhotoArt tribute today, in honour of #Indigenous #FirstNations & #forests.
Both photos I used to create this piece were shot in the #Cowichan area.
#LakeCowichan partially shrouded in #fog. I miss seeing the fog over the lake. When I lived in Youbou for a few years, the mystical lake fog formed often & it was beautiful to see.
Lake Cowichan (in #Nitinaht language- ʕaʔk̓ʷaq c̓uubaʕsaʔtx̣) is the traditional ancestral home to the #Indigenous c̓uubaʕsaʔtx̣ people.
Cowichan River flows through the middle of the town.
I'll be calling #KaatzAdventures on Monday to ask about a double kayak rental so me & Ojistoh can get to a really nice boat access only spot. We want have a fire & do some drumming ceremony there. She has never been there & I haven't been there in almost 20 years.
Kaatza Adventures is owned and operated by #Tsuubaaasatx #FirstNation - formerly known as #LakeCowichan First Nation.
They also host #IndigenousBeading workshops in the Summer.

**UPDATE: RIDE FOUND! Thank you for boosting, everyone!!!**
Can folks in & around #VictoriaBC please boost this post for me to expand reach to locals?
My driver for my Feb. 24-28 trip to #LakeCowichan is now very sick & won't be better anytime soon.
I need to find a replacement driver. I need transport from my South #Saanich home to LC on Feb. 24 - anytime after 1pm. I'll need transport from LC back home on Feb. 28 - anytime before noon.
I can pay driver to transport me there/back & help me load & unload luggage. I'm unable to use the IslandLink bus service because they don't have routes to LC.
If you can help me with transportation, please DM or, send me a message on Signal:

Part of the area by one of my fave & free #backroads #wilderness #camping & recreation spots in #Ditidaht territory. The backroads in both the North & South #Cowichan areas have several fantastic recreational camping sites which are free to stay at - zero amenities so you need to be prepared to pack in what you need & pack it back out. I like the backroads spots better than fully maintained & easier to access sites. I rarely see anyone else near me when camping at backroads sites.
Ocean waters flowing into #CowichanBay & passing through #MapleBay & #GenoaBay on #VancouverIsland in #BritishColumbia #Canada.
Saltspring Island is in the distant background
We stayed warm & cozy, indoors, as the snow accumulated outdoors. We treated ourselves to several different home spa treatments. I love head to toe skincare treatments. Our skin feels so soft & smooth, afterwards.
From last Sunday morning. When the first snowflakes started to fall, while I was soaking in the hot tub. My 2 galpals had gone on an errands run into Duncan. I opted to stay at the suite & hot tub while watching birds in the yard. I was delighted that it started snowing.
The pretty little #ZenGarden with ponds, before the snow blizzard hit.
#Ocean #waves rolling in on a secluded #CowichanBay beach.
I'll be revisiting this beautiful quiet spot during my upcoming 50th birthday getaway that my galpals are taking me on. We will probably have a beach fire & cook some foods on the beach.
The ocean is excellent #Saltwater for the Soul
