Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating around the world. May this Eid al-Adha bring peace, reflection, and unity to our hearts and communities. Let’s carry the spirit of sacrifice and compassion beyond the celebration.

🕋 Wishing you a joyful and blessed day with your loved ones.

#SNIWWOC #FoodProject: Your food, your choice.

According to Statistics Canada (Dec 2020), approximately one in seven Canadians (14.6%) were living in a food-insecure household in May 2020. #FoodInsecurity is also a cause associated with poorer nutrition as well as a variety of physical and mental health issues.

SNIWWOC is providing a #FoodSecurity program for #LowIncome #RacializedWomen including #transgender and #TwoSpirit community members. This program is intended to offset costs of monthly #groceries, not to cover all costs.

Eligible clients will receive the decided amount of gift cards to one of the grocery stores. We are committed to supporting vulnerable women in our community, such as single mothers and newcomers who are sometimes isolated.

ELIGIBILITY
1. Women Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour, including transgender, non-binary and two-spirit community members who are 18 years old or above;

2. Must make less than the low-income cut-off line (submit the proof of income)* see the table on website.

3. Resident of Greater Victoria BC, Canada.

STEPS:
1. Fill out our Groceries Project Request form.
2. Receive an email from SNIWWOC.
3. Submit proof of income (or household income if you are married/common law). This can include: a current tax return, notice of assessment, or any benefits received from the government (ex. Disability Assistance).

**Screenshots of bank statements or accounts will not be considered a valid form of proof of income**

4. Submit proof of dependent(s). This can include: health cards, passports, birth certificate, driver's license, school registration, childcare statement, or status card.

5. Set up an in-person appointment at SNIWWOC’s Victoria BC office.

6. Fill out the feedback survey sent via email from SNIWWOC.

Note: You can apply once every three months, while supplies last. Clients are eligible for their first round of gift cards every three months after receiving them. Clients who receive their second gift card in three months must wait another six months to be eligible for the program once again.

Example: Client A can apply in January and receive the gift card, then Client A can also apply again in April, then they would need to wait until October to be eligible for the program once again.

OUR TEAM
We are an interdisciplinary team of women dedicated to improving the health of racialized women across Canada. We are the community we serve.

I'm making it my personal mission to stock up this empty community free pantry for every week in September & at least twice a month, until Winter storms prevent me from being able to get to location safely. This area has some of the poorest people in our local community. I'm going to recruit a few #humanitarian friends to help me keep this community box stocked up. I was upset to see it completely empty today.

Since everyone appears to be doing an #introduction

I'm an #ActuallyAutistic and #ADHD generally stateless being, existing somewhere in the pacific north west, and a few years into my post-late-diagnosis journey of gathering sufficient data to identify what happy means to me and what I need to do to achieve it.

My pronouns are it/she (as in use it/its/she/her interchangeably but I prefer the version that doesn't also assume humanity), I identify more heavily with the #voidpunk movement than I do humans after a lifetime of dehumanization by abusers and NT society, and have been leaning into existing as an energy state rather than attempting to be something I cannot for a reason as inconsequential to me as societal expectation to fit into a neat box.

I do tech by day, and make music by night when I am not also doing tech by night.

I'm glad I finally joined Mastodon. And I'm extra glad I found neurodifferent as a server to join via.

One of the struggles with birdsite I never figured out - and which meant that I rarely if ever used it, except to avoid the stupid popup telling me I needed to log in to keep scrolling to something I'd link clicked on - was the sheer volume of NT bullshit that was there, and would run like an unavoidable oil slick into any search or feed. Interacting with them (even passively) isn't particularly good for my well-being, so I make a habit to stay away from most social media as a result.

Having this individualized approach where everyone on a given instance happens to have a significant overlap in their venn diagram has been so incredibly liberating. Clicking on local and seeing only ND voices is so calming and uplifting, and feels safe, which is rare on the internet.

I deeply believe we are stronger as a #collective and I've been working on adopting as many people into my extended circle as I can IRL to reduce the alienation we all feel.

Thanks @squish for making this thing a thing, the hard work is appreciated.
