Are online meetings reducing our collective intelligence? New research says maybe. A close look at the experiment tells a different story.

From all sides, a true #concertdesvolontés! Thank you all for your inspiring contributions and collective intelligence. Let’s keep deconstructing and imagining together.

The travel time to #Mars is currently between 1/4 and 1/2 year, but ~60% seem not to know anything about it according to a recent #vote https://spacey.space/@spaceflight/114367524800901103
“Here, we argue that innovations are instead an emergent property of our species' cultural learning abilities, applied within our societies and social networks. Our societies and social networks act as collective brains.”

In a follow-on from my previous post about the tool itself, I'm building a list of social accounts, people, organisations, communities and bots involved with Collective Intelligence projects. Who should be on it?
https://instantiator.dev/listsky/lists/collective-intelligentsia.html
I've posted about ListSky, a new tool for collaboratively managing social media lists through GitHub.
https://instantiator.dev/post/collaborative-list-manager-listsky/
Changes to lists are submitted as pull requests or issues. Accepted changes are reflected on BlueSky and published to the web.
(In future, lists on other social networks will be supported...)
It's an open source .NET application that runs entirely within GitHub Actions.
"The reality of how value is created and distributed through #collaborative innovation has been woefully obscured. By debunking the myth that value is created by the private sector, and that the state is, at best, a de-risker and crisis manager, we can develop an understanding of how #innovation works. If we want to leverage the power of #collectiveintelligence, we will need to adopt a #commongood framework. Given the scale of the challenges, we will need to do it fast."
I'm trying out Bluesky. Come be my friendsky! (Bluefriend?) You'll get largely the same output there as you get from me here, I think, but... with butterflies?

“our romantic narrative of how discovery occurs obscures the terms of collaboration. Who is participating? Who is actually creating value? And how are the rewards being distributed? “
How essential is background blur on video calls? I can formulate an argument or two for each of these statements, so I'd like to understand what's important. Vote for what's most important to you...
Please reply with nuances, arguments, explanations of your choices, etc.
I'll summarise findings when the poll's done.
Come work with me at Nesta!
We're looking for a front-end developer to join our small team as we build prototypes / MVPs / and production-ready collective intelligence solutions.
There's lots of information in the job description, and I'll gladly chat about the role if you have questions. Reach out!
Apply by 28 May:

I agree, totally. Collective intelligence can produce marvels.
I wish us ALL good luck and good times with this.

It's #FollowFriday, and if you're interested in #CollectiveIntelligence or collective gaming, give @icgames a follow.
It's a personal project and social consensus chess game that runs over #Mastodon.

I'm intending to restart it soon...
"While many politicians are focused on shielding #democracy from the worst aspects of #AI, #AudreyTang is experimenting with how to use it to enhance democracy—particularly in terms of #AIregulation. Earlier this year, she collaborated with the #CollectiveIntelligence Project to introduce Alignment Assemblies. The #onlineforums enable ordinary citizens to weigh in on the uses, ethics, regulation, and impact surrounding #AI."
Another find today! Teable looks like a nice, feature rich #OpenSource shared #spreadsheet application - rather like airtable, but considerably more under your own control! It's backed by your own choice of database, too and dev friendly... I think there are some interesting #CollectiveIntelligence tools I could build on top of something like this...

What Makes Us Smart?
"Contrary to conventional wisdom, human brilliance emerges not from our innate brainpower or raw computational capacities, but from the sharing of information in communities and networks over generations."
This white paper lays out a vision of research and development in the field of artificial intelligence for the next decade (and beyond). Its denouement is a cyber-physical ecosystem of natural and synthetic sense-making, in which humans are integral participants—what we call “shared intelligence.”
