This is where the magic happens. My writing space is appalling, but it works. My desk is stacked with writing notes, unwrapped Christmas presents, books, jewellery, snacks, meds, supplements, stationery, art supplies, computers, and weird witchy stuff like candles, bones, feathers, wasp paper, perfume oils, and pieces of trees. And yes, that is Baba Yaga's hut up there, just below the deer skull. I made that hut for a stop motion project several years ago. It needs some minor repair work. I'll get to it sometime. Maybe.

I only burn the candles when my workspace is neat and tidy. I don't know if I've burned them at all this year. #workspace #clutter #WritingCommunity

"Cosily curated Japanese clutter-spaces are different. There is a meticulousness to the best of them that is on a par with the mental effort poured into simplifying something: a deliberate aesthetic decision to add, rather than subtract – sometimes mindfully, sometimes unconsciously, but always, always individually."

AeonThe life-changing magic of Japanese clutter | Aeon EssaysThe world sees Japan as a paragon of minimalism. But its hidden clutter culture shows that ‘more’ can be as magical as ‘less’

My poor cat decided to leap from the back of my chair onto a table that's piled unreasonably high with clutter. When her forefeet touched the clutter pile, they caused an avalanche; and the cat started to fall. I'd been petting her and so my hands were right there, & I tried and succeeded in catching her and holding onto her.
But that meant she couldn't jump out of the way of the falling papers & half-finished crochet projects and fortunately only one book. She wasn't harmed at all, but she was scared; & I think I should have just let her jump out of the way on her own - she's a *cat*, after all. And so I feel guilty as hell.

To anyone who’s struggling with #clutter as #autistic or #ADHD, I’ve tried lots of different methods lately, but Dana K White’s 5 point approach is a real winner here.

Main pluses are the “container concept” to logically limit and choose favourites to fit a space without guilt and the common sense unemotional early stages that get rid of a lot of stuff even before having to make difficult decisions.

Good morning, friends. 💮☕ ⌨️

30 April 2024

My office is a mess, it looks like something out of a movie with an absent-minded professor as a character. There are cameras, old computers, and computer parts scattered everywhere. There are papers that I need to file or take some kind of action on. I have so many books in here that I've run out of space in my bookcase, and they are starting to pile up on the side of the bookcase. I tell myself to take a day and straighten it up, but it just goes on my list of things to do tomorrow because tomorrow is the perfect day to get things done. One thing that gets done, is the office gets vacuumed regularly - I have a Roomba 😂.

Decluttering activity of the evening: threw all the philosophy books I had in the book donation pile. Why do I have a giant pile of philosophy books? Because of ONE philosophy class in college, which I hated... eons and eons ago. Have I moved them at least 4 times? Yes. The last time I read one of them? COLLEGE. #clutter (also, you can get them all free on Project Gutenberg now, I am pretty sure).

The great dediskening begins. I’m not interesting enough for shred so a quick /dev/random should do the trick for most, and a screwdriver for anything that doesn’t come up as a storage device. One in progress, nineteen to go while I work. #clutter #ewaste

ok. so, #ADHD plus meds for my #PMDD give me a severe case of out-of-sight-out-of-mind, I forget stuff. which leads to clutter around my house, cuz if i put things away, they're GONE and quickly forgotten. So I have things out and around alllll the time. I don't love the clutter. but if I put things away, woosh. into the void.
anyone have ideas for how to deal with this problem??

Good morning. 🍂🍂🍂

Company is coming today sometime; I suppose we should straighten up. I've gotten really relaxed and am not bothered by clutter like used to be. I noticed that there are a couple of new bowls sitting on the counter in the kitchen. Perhaps we can make room in a cabinet or maybe not without ridding of something else. I'm not a fan of buying new stuff, except for camera stuff.

We bought a new tree this year because a daughter in-law and granddaughter decided they were coming here for Christmas. Family are the people who show up at your door and you have to let them in. I told my wife I would take the old one to Goodwill, but as predicted, she said no, we have to store it until we go to Georgia again.
