Rescuers in the States that use <a href="https://m.ai6yr.org/tags/CellularForensics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CellularForensics</span></a> to locate people suggest that generally it's best to turn it on and keep it on if you are in a rescue situation.</p><p>Hundreds of successful recoveries have occurred with aircraft carrying comm equipment that broadcast broadcast to see if a device connects, which only works with airplane mode off...</p><p>The same goes for us pulling cell tower data and comparing with <a href="https://m.ai6yr.org/tags/CAP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CAP</span></a> coverage maps to find the pings.</p><p>I mean no ill will, but we should be wary of providing information on the open web that does the same thing that you're telling folks to prevent.</p>
