Jean-Francois Mezei
#CRTC mandates "local news". After trump instituted his tariff war, Noovo Info (Bell in french) wanted to cover the impact on a company in St-George de Beauce near the border but the Bell regulatory folks said "this isn't considered local news content". So the local news team were told they couldn't go !

Jean-Francois Mezei
For those unfamiliar to 9.1(h): Clause in Broadcasting act that allows the CRTC to declare a channel is of naional interest and must not only be carriued to cablecos (BDUs) but the BDU must also make a per subscriber contribution to the channel to help fund the channel (the amout is set by #CRTC

Wikipedia has list of current chanels: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9.1_(1)(h)_order

(note the cause is ow 9.1(1)(h)

Jean-Francois Mezei
Shocking ! I agree with Bell 😉 During C-10/C-11 I raised the issue of unfairness for 9.1(h) services funded only by BDUs (cable TV) (which was ignored, of course). Bell Canada argues similar (despite not having any 9.1(h) channels) but suggests that the contributions be spread to include the content streamers as well, stating that if they help pay for a channel, they have incentive to carry its content, increasing visibility.

#CRTC
