George Liquor, American<p>Y'all I got this nearly 30-year-old CDr at the thrift and can't get a clean rip of it even though the surface looks great. It does have a paper label, so that might be causing problems. Does anyone have experience archiving oooollllddd CDrs? I really want a proper lossless copy of this, but the only rips I can get are full of noise, even using EAC secure mode. Subpolar regions equilibrate the fastest and most complete. Equatorial regions are the slowest but eventually reach near-complete equilibration after 15 years. 1/</p>

David Ho<p>This is actually something I fear with CO₂ removal (<a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/CDR" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CDR</span></a> ). Rich countries will not want to use their own land and renewable energy for CDR, so they outsource it to the Global South. In doing so, rich countries could hinder the development of Global South countries by taking up their resources to remove the CO₂ emissions of rich countries.</p><p>Supporting “CDR abroad” needs to be done carefully so it’s not exploitation.</p>
David Ho<p>tl;dr: High reliance on CO₂ removal (<a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/CDR" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CDR</span></a>) is bad for CO₂ emissions, as well as land, water, and fertilizer use. But CDR does have a role. David Ho<p>If moving large amounts of sand is economically untenable and logistically impractical, we should consider the implications for many CO₂ removal (<a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/CDR" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CDR</span></a>) methods that require us to move even larger amounts of biomass, sand, rocks, acid, or CO₂.</p>
