The US dismantled most Covid wastewater testing to save money, yet Texas wants to test water for birth control, abortion pills & hormones associated with gender affirming care.

This is an assault on reproductive rights & another move towards a full surveillance state.

This isn’t about increasing the birth rate or protecting children. It’s about control.

Today on ErosBlog: a 1966 magazine article on condoms. Chiefly it's about the primarily anticompetitive reasons why condoms were then mostly for sale only via drug stores and not by mail order, but there are disquisitions into (probably spurious) condom history and literary discussions of French ticklers and penis modification:

"#McCormick’s interest in #birthcontrol began in the 1910s, when she learned of Margaret Sanger, the feminist leader who had been jailed for opening the nation’s first birth control clinic. She shared Sanger’s fervent belief that women should be able to chart their own biological destinies. From 1922 to 1925, McCormick smuggled more than 1,000 #diaphragms into Sanger’s clinics."

“President #Trump & #ElonMusk are pushing their dangerous political agenda, stripping #health care access from people nationwide, & not giving a second thought to the devastation they will cause,” Johnson said in a stmnt.

Federally funded programs such as #TitleX are crucial in providing access to #affordable #ReproductiveHealthcare, said Kelly Baden, VP for public policy at the Guttmacher Institute, which supports #AbortionRights.

The WSJ reported last week #RFKJr’s #HHS planned an immediate freeze of $27.5M in #FamilyPlanning grants for groups including #PlannedParenthood.

PPFA says >300 #health centers are in the #TitleX network & Title X-funded centers received >1.5M visits in 2023.

The loss of funding will mean that “cancers go undetected, access to #BirthControl is severely reduced, & the nation’s #STI crisis worsens,” said Alexis McGill Johnson, PPFA president.

The Healey-Driscoll Administration in Massachusetts has implemented two standing orders allowing approximately 500,000 eligible Massachusetts residents to obtain free over-the-counter birth control pills and prenatal vitamins. #uspol #uspolitics #freedom #birthcontrol #health #massachusetts #mapol #mapoli

GBH · State orders open access to free prenatal vitamins, birth controlBy Sam Drysdale | State House News Service

I ❤️ Massachusetts.

Governor Healey just made prenatal vitamins and OTC birth control part of mass health & some other medical mass insurance program.

I rejoice when I see something helping women who want to have children and who don’t want to have children. This is really wonderful, but I’m kind of surprised that someone on mass health who is pregnant would have had to pay for prenatals anyway.

I have came to the conclusion that it is hard for people to understand to wear a mask as a part of layering protections, like vaccinating, clean air, testing, and isolating when ill....because the same people seem to think that AFAB person using birth control alone is enough to prevent pregnancy.

Birth control alone is not 100% effective. Layer protections to prevent crotch goblins AND STD's. Both partners need to be protected.

Mask up both up and down.

SCOTUS just gave abortion clinics a rare win

But more significant threats from Trump’s Department of Justice remain.

by Julianne McShane, 2/24/2025

"Abortion rights advocates took the court’s rejection of the cases as a win, albeit a limited one.

"Katie O’Connor, director of federal abortion policy at the National Women’s Law Center, said that while the organization was “relieved” to hear about the court’s decision, “anti-abortion extremists are now more emboldened” thanks to Trump.

"Last month, for example, Trump’s DOJ announced it would limit enforcement of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, a 1994 federal law that prohibits physical force, threats, or intimidation against people trying to access reproductive health clinics. While the law has been used to prosecute both anti-abortion protesters targeting abortion clinics and abortion rights protesters targeting anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers, Trump baselessly claimed the Biden administration 'selectively weaponized [the law] against Christians.' The new DOJ guidance—which says the FACE Act should only be used in 'extraordinary circumstances' or cases involving 'death, serious bodily harm, or serious property damage'—reportedly has abortion providers bracing for more intense protests and fearing more violence. (The DOJ’s directive to limit FACE Act enforcement, though, does not override the legality of buffer zones, which are controlled by state and local law enforcement.)"

Look this is why we need to be paying attention to what is happening in our states.

Trump is meant to distract us all while they all attack us at the state level. They are all introducing the same bills in all our states.

They were ready. While the Democrats were reaching across the aisle to be friends with them they were preparing these documents to submit to the states.

The Dems will not be coming to save us, they could have prevented this battle by saving women’s reproductive rights but the filibuster was more important.

We all need to be paying attention to what is happening in our states and pushing back at the state level. Because they are all doing all of these things.

Also stop having sex with men who aren’t actively fighting against this. Don’t have sex with men who don’t vote. Don’t have sex with men who vote Republican. Just don’t, it can literally kill you. And they don’t care if they want that.
