This workshop will cover the fundamentals of building a beat at a beginner level, using MIDI, samples, and synthesizers. We will work together to build a beat from scratch using GarageBand, discussing rhythmic theory along the way (quarter and eighth notes, syncopation, claves, “Dilla time,” and more). Laptops provided. You will have 30 minutes of free time to build your own beat.

The #BostonPublicLibrary makes the New York Times and Wall Street Journal available for free to cardholders but not the Washington Post.
The Post has its problems, but IMHO it's still leaps and bounds ahead of the Times and the Journal. Also, it regularly published investigative journalism of national importance which isn't comparably covered by the Times or the Journal.
