Nonilex<p>“That incident was a case study in them going after the people who do the <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/science" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>science</span></a>,”…Clement said.</p><p>In April, OPM finalized a rule that will allow federal employees to keep their existing <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/JobProtections" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JobProtections</span></a> &amp; right to <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/DueProcess" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DueProcess</span></a>, including the right to appeal a reassignment or firing. The rule overturns a <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/Trump" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Trump</span></a> directive, known as <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/ScheduleF" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ScheduleF</span></a>, that allowed his admin to force out thousands of career employees by changing their status to <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/AtWill" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AtWill</span></a> workers who could be fired w/o due process.</p><p><a href="https://masto.ai/tags/law" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>law</span></a></p>
Nonilex<p>The rule addresses a move <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/Trump" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Trump</span></a> tried to make late in his presidency by issuing an EO known in shorthand as <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/ScheduleF" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ScheduleF</span></a>. It would have empowered his admin to strip <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/JobProtections" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JobProtections</span></a> from <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/career" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>career</span></a> <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/federal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>federal</span></a> <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/employees" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>employees</span></a> — who are supposed to be hired based on <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/merit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>merit</span></a> &amp; cannot be arbitrarily fired. While the EO said agencies should not hire or fire Schedule F employees based on <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/political" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>political</span></a> affiliation, it effectively would have made these employees more like political appointees who can be <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/fired" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fired</span></a> <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/AtWill" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AtWill</span></a>.</p>
Hrefna (DHC)<p>Gahhhhhh, once again, for those in the back:</p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/AtWill" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AtWill</span></a> does not mean "they can fire you for any or no reason." It means that they can fire you for a lot of things, but firing you for engaging in a protected activity, being in a protected class, etc is still illegal.</p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/RightToWork" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RightToWork</span></a> has to do with <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/union" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>union</span></a> security clauses. Nothing else. It doesn't affect your rights beyond that item. At all. </p><p>Please stop conceding defeat and encouraging others to concede before even starting.</p>
