(SF Standard) Filmakers & Archivists Reel from DOGE cuts

"The Internet Archive, the SF-headquartered nonprofit best known for its “Wayback Machine” archiving tool, was halfway through an NEH grant of $345,960 when the funding was cut.

That was just the first DOGE-related funding cut to hit the Internet Archive..."

@ascentale @bikenite A1. Davis, CA, USA (still, dang it).

I'm moving to Europe and have to get rid of most of my possessions. It's been painful and slow. But one highlight is that I was able to donate my beloved cycling map/book collection to LA Public Library's famous Map Room. And they encourage others to add to their non-car maps!

I walked in to find the box of maps sitting on my desk this morning. Thank you again for the very kind and generous donation. I'm particularly fond of Bicycling Through the Mother Lode. It, along with the others are some real gems and I'm excited to share them with patrons. Our most recent map of Trinidad and Tobago is from 1983, so the updated map is greatly appreciated.

It's interesting to me that we haven't seen these kinds of bicycle maps more often. Our collection is very heavy on road maps, and street guides, so your gift really fills some gaps.

Best,

@fedibikes @bikenite For those curious, I donated a 1982 Caltrans map of the Pacific Bicentennial Route, Adventure Cycling maps, Krebs Cycle maps of the Bay Area, the North Bay cycling maps, some Davis cycling maps, a Grant Peterson Routes to Ride that LAPL didn't already have, even some brochures from cycling routes on the Bay Trail/Rosie the Riveter NHP, and several other maps/route books. #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Archives
