Richard Rollinson<p>A look at my seed starting set-up. 4 shelves, each with room for 4 trays. Each shelf has it's own 4-bulb, 4 foot light fixture. I use the light fixtures as heat mats for the shelf above &amp; adjust spacing as needed. Photo has bulb details. Most of the first wave of seed starting is done, for now. Got the eggplant (aubergines) started this morning. BeetBear is happy the beetroot has now sprouted. The remaining plants are languishing but the buds are still brilliant.</p>

Colin Purrington<p>So, gardeners, is there any good use for eggshells now that it's established that they don't prevent blossom end rot in tomatoes and don't deter slugs in lettuce plantings? Am wondering whether they would work as an inert for repotting orchids, or perhaps as a decorative addition to my miniature rock garden. My seed starting area is a room in the basement that I used to use as a photographic darkroom MANY years ago and is now full of grow lights. First up is Viola (Helen Mount), and Verbena bonariensis.
