Danny Garside<p>Hey researchers, I'm looking for examples of <a href="https://social.coop/tags/OpenResearch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenResearch</span></a> practices that you employ that directly benefit _you_. <br>I.e. things that work towards open science, but also benefit you directly (save you time/effort/money perhaps).</p><p><a href="https://social.coop/tags/OpenScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenScience</span></a> <a href="https://social.coop/tags/AcademicChat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AcademicChat</span></a> <a href="https://social.coop/tags/research" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>research</span></a></p>
Dr. Robert M Flight<p>New NSF guidelines for grant review say that if you upload any part of a grant you are reviewing to an AI system like ChatGPT, etc; that constitutes a breach of the confidentiality you agreed to as a reviewer.</p><p>As a grant writer, totally up to you how you might use AI to help you write your grant. It sounds like NSF is now asking you to disclose how much AI is used to help prepare the grant.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/academia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>academia</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/AcademicChat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AcademicChat</span></a></p><p><a href="https://fediscience.org/@mhucka/111584337488232045" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">fediscience.org/@mhucka/111584</span><span class="invisible">337488232045</span></a></p>
Charlotte Walker<p>Tomorrow is day 1 of a 3-day Research Methods e-Festival and I am geekily excited about this. There are sessions on all sorts of things. Tomorrow I plan to attend talks on collaborative analysis with lived experience experts and prospective and speculative methodologies <a href="https://academictalk.org/tags/academicchat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>academicchat</span></a> <a href="https://academictalk.org/tags/AcademicChatter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AcademicChatter</span></a> <a href="https://academictalk.org/tags/PhD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PhD</span></a> <a href="https://academictalk.org/tags/PhDChat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PhDChat</span></a></p>
Morten Bay<p>Today, I received yet another email trying to goad me into contributing to a an academic book on growing potatoes... Because I published an article on Paul Baran's packet-switching design from 1961, which he named 'Hot Potato Routing'. It's a network routing design!</p><p>This kind of spam is either bad ML or extreme sloppiness, and it's profoundly annoying.</p><p>Does this stuff happen to anyone else?</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/academicchat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>academicchat</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/commodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>commodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/histodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>histodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/histofTech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>histofTech</span></a></p>
