petersuber<p>2/ I suspect that these articles were published in <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/paywalled" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>paywalled</span></a> journals. Their authors released preprints after publication as a way to avoid the risk of rejection (<a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/IngelfingerRule" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>IngelfingerRule</span></a>) and still make some version <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/OpenAccess" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenAccess</span></a>.</p><p>Depositing the accepted author manuscript (<a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/AAM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AAM</span></a>) in an OA repository (<a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/GreenOA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GreenOA</span></a>) would have let them share the peer-reviewed text, not just a preprint. But when journals don't allow this and when authors haven't retained rights, then depositing an OA preprint is a workaround.</p>
Elan Head<p>Back in the 1920s, my great-great grandfather was a railway supply tycoon who became passionately interested in rigid <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/airships" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>airships</span></a>. He facilitated the joint venture between Goodyear Tire &amp; Rubber and the <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/Zeppelin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Zeppelin</span></a> Company and served as director of Goodyear-Zeppelin. For the U.S. DOT Volpe National Transportation Systems Center's thought leadership series on advanced air mobility, I revisited this family history in the context of <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/AAM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AAM</span></a>: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOQXRQkjAgY&amp;t=1521s" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=fOQXRQkjAg</span><span class="invisible">Y&amp;t=1521s</span></a></p>
Gaël Le Bris<p>New <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/energy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>energy</span></a> sources in aviation, and aerial <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/innovation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>innovation</span></a> in general, are subject to a lot of passion. Many commenters have very strong opinions about them. But we're <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/engineers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>engineers</span></a>, isn't it? We look at facts, not feelings. There is a wide ocean of possibilities between "this is all 💩" and "everything will be electric &amp; <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/hydrogen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hydrogen</span></a>". For instance, electric &amp; hybrid propulsion systems or <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/EHPS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EHPS</span></a> are part of the future of <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/aviation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>aviation</span></a> – and not just <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/AAM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AAM</span></a> by the way. 🚁🛩️✈️🔋</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/aircraft" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>aircraft</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/engineering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>engineering</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/stem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>stem</span></a></p>
